PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a method for carrier allocation and management in multi-carrier communication systems.SOLUTION: The number of carriers assigned to an access terminal (AT) on a forward link (FL) is determined by an access network (AN), and the number of carriers assigned to the access terminal (AT) on a reverse link (RL) is based on a cooperative process between the access terminal (AT) and the access network (AN). The number of carriers assigned to the access terminal (AT) on the reverse link (RL) is also determined by the access network (AN) in relation to the scheduling information received from the access terminal (AT).

Abstract:
Some implementations provide a method for prioritizing reverse link packets so that particular reverse link packets are transmitted with a reduced latency in order to improve spectral efficiency of the forward link. The method also optionally includes weighting packets according to their determined lengths and transmitting packets based on the determined weights. In one implementation the method includes sorting packets at least according to one of size type and nature of the data in the packets. Accordingly sorting of the packets includes at least one of determining the size and the type of each packet. In one implementation sorting the packets includes deep packet inspection to determine a respective priority value for each packet.

Abstract:
Embodiments disclosed herein relate to carrier allocation and management in multi-carrier communication systems. In some embodiments, the number of carriers assigned to an access terminal on a forward link may be determined by an access network, and the number of carriers assigned to the access terminal on a reverse link may be based on a cooperative process between the access terminal and the access network. In other embodiments, the number of carriers assigned to the access terminal on the reverse link may also be determined by the access network, e.g., in relation to the scheduling information received from the access terminal. Abstract:
A method of transmitting a packet is provided. The method includes the steps of selecting a payload size from a payload profile, identifying a power level associated with the selected payload size for a transmission mode of the packet, determining whether transmission conditions are satisfied and selecting a different payload size if the conditions are not satisfied. A method of obtaining current power allocation for flows on an access terminal by setting a power allocation is also disclosed, as well as a wireless access terminal able to transmit a packet as described above, and other apparatus for performing the methods as provided.
Abstract:
An access terminal (206) is configured for wireless communication with an access network (204) within a sector (1032) is disclosed. The access terminal (206) includes a transmitter (2608) for transmitting a reverse traffic channel to the access network (204), an antenna (2614) for receiving signals from the access network (204), a processor (2602) and memory (2604) in electronic communication with the processor (2602). Instructions are stored in the memory (2604). The instructions are arranged to estimate a current value of a reverse activity bit (1444) transmitted by the access network (204). If the estimated current value of the reverse activity bit indicates that the sector is busy, a current power allocation for each flow of a plurality of flows is decreased on the access terminal. The magnitude of the decrease for a particular flow is determined according to a downward ramping function that is designed for the flow, the downward ramping function being a function of the current power allocation for the flow. If the estimated current value of the reverse activity bit indicates that the sector is idle, the current power allocation for each flow of the plurality of flows is increased on the access terminal. The magnitude of the increase for a particular flow is determined according to an upward ramping function that is designed for the flow, the upward ramping function being a function of the current power allocation for the flow.
