Abstract: PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To include, in a backing up assist instruction system, a sensor providing detection coverage in a prescribed coverage zone behind a vehicle.
SOLUTION: The sensor includes a transmission antenna adapted for transmitting an RF field having a quasi-collimated antenna pattern in a near field. The transmission antenna comprises a housing disposed across the fascia of a rear bumper, a plurality of flexible waveguide channels disposed within the housing and each having a pair of inner surfaces and a slot surface, and at least one coax probe coupled to at least one of the plurality of flexible waveguide channels.

Abstract: A multiple beam array antenna system comprises a plurality of radiating elements provided from stripline-fed open-ended waveguide coupled to a Butler matrix beam forming network. The Butler matrix beam forming network is coupled to a switched beam combining circuit. The antenna can be fabricated as a single Low Temperature Co-fired Ceramic (LTCC) circuit.
