Abstract: 1423332 Producing synthetic suede TEXON Inc 21 Jan 1974 [8 Feb 1973] 02747/74 Heading B2E Synthetic suede-like material is produced by coating a substrate with a foamable thermoplastic resin, heating the resin to generate a foam having a smooth outer surface, compressively contacting this outer surface with a smooth surface (particularly a roller) heated to a temperature which will soften the outer portion of the foam (and preferably heated to the melt temperature of the resin), and removing an outer surface layer of the foam by disengaging the contacting heated surface thereby exposing the underlying pore structure of the foam. The substrate may be of cloth, scrim or resin- or elastomer-impregnated cellulosic material and the coating may be of PVC, polyethylene or polyurethane.
