Abstract: A method for forming an investment casting core (20) comprises cutting a patterned core precursor from refractory metal-based sheet. The cutting forms recast (24) along the cuts. An oxide (26) is grown on non-recast areas. The recast (24) is substantially chemically removed but substantially leaving the oxide (26). The core precursor may then be shaped.
