    Abstract: PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To manufacture a light air foil, having rigidity adaptable to a load generated by a gas turbine engine, at a low cost. SOLUTION: An air foil 30 of which, for example, a fan outlet guide vane consists has a body with geometrical cross section comprising a first wall 44; a second wall 46 arranged opposite to the first wall; a front edge 48; a rear edge 50 arranged opposite to the front edge; and at least one of cavities 52 and 54. The cavities 52 and 54 are formed between the first and second walls 44 and 46 and between the front and rear edges 48 and 50. The air foil 30 is extrusion-molded by using non-continuous reinforced aluminum such that the body with geometrical cross section is extended between first and second ends.

    Abstract: A method for manufacturing a brush seal is provided including the steps of: (a) providing fiber; (b) providing a packing material; (c) providing a pair of backing plates; (d) arranging the fiber in a particular arrangement; (e) applying the packing material to selective areas of the arranged fiber; (f) cutting the fibers in bristle sections, wherein each of the bristle sections includes a plurality of bristles and one of the selective areas having applied packing material; (g) stacking the bristle sections, such that the selective areas of applied packing material are aligned between the backing plates; and (h) bonding the backing plates, the bristle sections, and the packing material together.

    Abstract: The energy storage flywheel device (6) includes a plurality of annular shaped composite sections (8) and an annular shaped insert (10). The insert (10) has a specific radial strength substantially greater than the composite sections' specific radial strength. The composite sections (8) and the insert (10) are alternately stacked such that they have a common axis of rotation. They are bonded to each other such that shear stress is transferred between the composite section (8) and insert (10). In some applications, the flywheel (6) may comprise at least one annular shaped metal matrix composite section (8).
