Abstract: Water-based compositions; such as coating compositions, particularly paints; comprising at least one low VOC phosphate-based coalescent and a latex or a water-dispersible polymer. A method for preparing a water-based composition comprises providing an aqueous polymer disperson, providing one or more low VOC coalescent, providing one or more water-insoluble ultraviolet absorber, and dissolving the one or more water-insoluble ultraviolet absorber in the one or more low VOC coalescent before the ultraviolet absorber is mixed with the aqueous polymer disperson.
