Abstract:
Inhibition of the formation of unsaturated carbon compounds during the heating of 141b involving the addition of various inhibitors such as butylene oxide and/or the use of a vessel lined with metal fluoride.
Abstract:
The present invention comprises a curable composition comprising: (i) a blocked reactive component comprising a blocked isocyanate or a blocked isothiocyanate; (ii) a functional component containing reactive hydrogen; (iii) a triorganotin catalyst for promoting the reaction of the blocked reactive component with the functional component. The composition may also be admixed with water. A co-catalyst may also be employed based on Cu, Zn, Ni, Fe, Co, V, Sb and Bi and especially oxides, salts or chelates of said metal where said metals are divalent. The invention also relates to a method for curing a blocked isocyanate or blocked isothiocyanate at a temperature below about 150 °C which comprises combining a triorganotin catalyst with the blocked reactive component and functional component and heating at a temperature less than about 150 °C to obtain a cured urethane or thiourethane.
Abstract:
Fire resistant hydraulic fluid compositions comprising (a) one or more esters of polyhaloaromatic acids per se or in combination with (b) one or more hydraulic fluids independently selected from mineral oil, poly- alpha -olefins, alkylated aromatics, cycloaliphatics, esters of dibasic acids, polyol esters, polyglycols, silicones, silicate esters, phosphate esters, and halogenated compositions other than (a); a method for imparting fire resistant properties to known hydraulic fluids by adding one or more esters of polyhaloaromatic acids alone or combined; and the use of the inventive compositions as fire resistant hydraulic fluids. The fire resistant compositions may, optionally, contain one or more shear-stable polymers which have been found to increase the fire resistance of the hydraulic fluid composition.
Abstract:
Acrylic coating resins with attached light stabilizer functional groups are provided, which resins are prepared by reacting light stabilizer hydrazides, LS-C(=O)-NR -NH2, with an acrylic prepolymer containing at least two different types of reactive functional groups, one of which is a hydroxyalkyl ester group and the other is carboxyl, anhydride, epoxy or isocyanate. LS is a light stabilizer moiety, e.g., of formula wherein R is, e.g., hydrogen and R is, e.g., a direct bond. The reaction may be carried out in an inert solvent or in the bulk state. The acrylic resins so produced are particularly useful in the stabilization of enamel or lacquer coatings and exhibit outstanding weatherability and durability. As a result of being chemically bound, the light stabilizers are resistant to loss due to volatility and extractability during typical coatings bake operations and exposure to the elements of weather.
Abstract:
The alkyl groups of dialkyl trisulfides are exchanged with the alkyl groups of mercaptans by reacting a tertiary dialkyl trisulfide with an alkyl mercaptan having a greater number of carbon atoms in its alkyl group than said trisulfide in the presence of an acidic or basic type catalyst for a time and a temperature sufficient to produce a dialkyl trisulfide having at least one transferred alkyl group from said mercaptan.
