Abstract: This invention provides reactive, flexible, water-resistant hydroxyethylpyrrolidone methacrylate/glycidyl methacrylate copolymers, or hydroxyethylpyrrolidone methacrylate/glycidyl methacrylate/-(Methacroyloxyglyceryl-Cellulosic) block copolymers. This invention provides hydroxyethylpyrrolidone methacrylate/glycidyl methacrylate copolymers having the structure: wherein x and y are mole %, the sum equals to 100, and wherein said copolymer is prepared by precipitation polymerization. The copolymer is useful in a wide variety of compositions.

Abstract: A hair straightening or hair styling composition comprising: (i) about 0.1 to about 50 wt. % of at least one lactone or combinations thereof; (ii) about 0.1 to about 20 wt. % of at least one organic or inorganic base; (iii) optionally, about 0.1 to about 20 wt. % of at least one functional polymer; (iv) optionally, about 0.1 to about 20 wt. % of at least one diol, polyol, sugar, or combinations thereof; (v) optionally, about 0.1 to about 20 wt. % of at least one reducing agent; and (vi) about 40 to about 95 wt. % of at least one carrier; and wherein, the composition has a pH of about 5 to about 11. This application also provides a process for preparing the above-described hair styling or hair straightening composition and method of use thereof.
