Abstract:
A method of treating a subterranean formation penetrated by a wellbore by forming a treatment fluid that includes at least a polyvinyl alcohol polymer and a crosslinking agent selected from the group consisting of an aliphatic polyester, a semi-aromatic polyester, a derivative of polyalkylene glycol diacid, and combinations thereof. The treatment fluid is then introduced into the subterranean formation.
Abstract:
A method, apparatus, and program convert waveform data, e.g., sonic or ultrasonic waveform data, to a seismic data format that is compatible with a seismic-based computer program such as a geology application, seismic application, attribute extraction application, visualization application, etc., thereby enabling the converted data to be analyzed using such a seismic-based computer program. By doing so, various attributes, analysis techniques, and visualization techniques, among others, that have traditionally been utilized for seismic data, may also be utilized for sonic and/or ultrasonic data.
Abstract:
An automated drilling rig control system in which one or more intelligent algorithms are in two-way communication with a rig control system and are configured to provide continuous external control over the a rig control system includes a safety logic module deployed between the intelligent algorithms and the rig control system. The safety logic module is configured to automatically close a communication pathway between the intelligent algorithms and the rig control system thereby preventing the intelligent algorithms from controlling the rig control system when an unsafe condition is detected.
Abstract:
Systems, methods, and apparatuses to generate a formation model are described. In one aspect, a logging system includes a transmitter to produce an electromagnetic field in a borehole, a receiver in the borehole to detect a first field signal induced by the electromagnetic field at a first depth of investigation and a second field signal induced by the electromagnetic field at a second depth of investigation, and a modeling unit to perform a first one-dimensional inversion on the first field signal and a second one-dimensional inversion on the second field signal, build a two-dimensional model from the first one-dimensional inversion and the second one-dimensional inversion, and perform a two-dimensional inversion on the two-dimensional model to generate a two-dimensional formation model.
Abstract:
A technique facilitates monitoring of parameters along the exterior of a tubing/casing deployed in a borehole. An array of sensors is positioned outside of the tubing/casing and within a borehole wall. The array of sensors is coupled to a surface via a communication line routed through an inductive coupler system. The inductive coupler system has a first inductive coupler member located at an outside position and a second inductive coupler member located at an inside position with respect to the tubing/casing. The arrangement enables real-time monitoring of events outside of the tubing/casing.
Abstract:
Embodiments set forth in this disclosure providing techniques for determining formation parameters, such as horizontal resistivity (Rh), vertical resistivity (Rv), and dip, in high angle and horizontal wells using non-directional resistivity measurements. For example, a method is provided that may include using an electromagnetic logging tool to acquire non-directional resistivity measurements in a wellbore of a high angle or horizontal well. The method may also include defining a processing window that corresponds to a measurement point of the electromagnetic logging tool along a well trajectory that intersects a at least one bed boundary between two layers of a subsurface formation. The method may also include defining a formation structure and defining an initial set of formation parameters for each layer in the formation structure. Furthermore, the method may include inverting the formation parameters for each layer.
Abstract:
A method for field management includes analyzing exploration and production (E&P) data sets to generate digital fingerprints of the E&P data sets. Each of the digital fingerprints represents a statistical characteristic of an E&P data set. The method further includes augmenting, by a computer processor, data set indices of the E&P data sets based on the digital fingerprints to generate augmented data set indices, retrieving, in response to a user search input and using the augmented data set indices, a selected E&P data set from the E&P data sets, and presenting the selected E&P data set.
Abstract:
An apparatus to allow a toolstring to negotiate obstructions in a well includes an elongated body, a centralizer connected with the elongated body; and a nose connected with an end of the elongated body. The nose actuates the centralizer when moved towards the centralizer.
Abstract:
An assembly with a shock inducing tool and shock sensitive components. The assembly includes a shock mitigator that is constructed in a manner that allows a communication line to stretch across an interface of the mitigator between a housing for the components and the shock inducing tool. So, for example, where the tool is a perforating gun, power and/or communication with the tool need not be sacrificed for in exchange for safeguarding electronic components of the housing with the mitigator.
Abstract:
Pressure relief systems for gas lift valves and mandrels are provided. In an implementation, a gas lift barrier mandrel includes two gas lift valves in series fluid communication. When fluid becomes confined between the two gas lift valves, an expansion volume is provided in one of the gas lift valves for pressure relief of the confined fluid, beginning at a pressure threshold value. The pressure relief may be mediated by a pressure-activated device, a piston, a spring, or a bellows to regulate the expansion of confined pressure. In an implementation, one of the gas lift valves may include a pressure relief valve to vent confined pressure from the gas lift valve to the production tubing or casing annulus. A check valve may be added in series with the pressure relief valve within the gas lift valve to prevent backflow through the pressure relief valve.
