There are provided a method and apparatus for synchronizing a plurality of media streams that use Forward Error Correction. The apparatus includes a memory device (110), a FEC encoder (120), and a control device (140). The memory device (110) is for buffering the plurality of media streams. The FEC encoder (120) is for generating FEC packets for streams. The control device (140) is for determining, for each stream, a respective threshold amount of buffer to be filled in order to initiate generation of the corresponding FEC packets, and upon a fastest one of the streams filling the respective threshold amount of buffer, causing an initiation of the generation of the FEC packets for the fastest stream, as well as for the other streams, irrespective of a current fill amount of the other streams, wherein said control device causes the initiation of the generation of the FEC packets by the FEC encoder via signaling.

In one embodiment of the present invention, a method includes locating at least one transmitter on at least one movable camera for transmitting a signal detectable by receivers located in fixed positions for distance measurements of the camera with respect to the receivers for location processing of the distance measurements. The method can further include detecting out of range measurements from collected range measurements based on receivers in known locations as an indication of the movement of a transmitter responsive to signals from the transmitter.

A system for providing content-on-demand is described having a peer, a server and a tracker. The tracker may be co-located with the server. The peer includes means for receiving a streamed leading content sub-clip, means for determining a set of needed content sub-clips, means for locating one of the set of needed content sub-clips and means for downloading the located content sub-clip.

A method for de-authenticating a client device from a network based on a credit based access control is disclosed. The method comprises receiving by an access point (AP) in the network a user request for user access from the client device according to an authentication protocol and transmitting by the AP an access request to an authentication server in response to the user request. The AP receives an access response from the authentication server authenticating the user access for the client device, where the access response contains a parameter having a value indicative of the length of available continued access of the client device to the network based on remaining user credit. The then transmits a re-authentication request to the authentication server when the parameter value reaches a threshold to cause a re-authentication of the client device with the network to occur before granting further access to the network by the client device.

The invention herein provides an apparatus and a method for automatically configuring an IEEE 802.1x client terminal to provide limited access in a WLAN environment, specifically utilizing the access point to filter traffic associated with the limited access so as to redirect the client terminal's HTTP request to a designated local web server. The web server responds to the client terminal by requesting information required to establish an authorized communication. Thereafter the client terminal provides information required to establish an authorized communication. In the course of the communication the web server sends information such as transmission rates, new user account creation information, authentication method selection, and access user terms and conditions of acceptance, all typically required to establish an authorized access. The client responds with information, required to establish an authorized communication.
