Abstract: A skin whitening composition comprising D-aspartate is provided to inhibit melanogenesis effectively and stably without cytotoxicity and without side effects by inhibiting generation of proopiomelanocorin(POMC) from skin cells when applied to skin. A skin whitening composition comprises 0.01-20 wt.% of D-aspartate as an effective ingredient. The composition further comprises at least one whitening agent selected from the group consisting of kojic acid, arbutin, vitamin C and an extract of Broussonetia kazinoki.
