Abstract: An image forming apparatus is provided to distribute an error of a color image concentrated to a rear end portion of a recording member to a front end portion and a central portion of the recording member. A plurality of photosensitive members(100) are rotated by a driving unit(500) and sequentially disposed to form a plurality of images on a recording member in an overlap manner. A transfer backup unit transfers the recording member such that it sequentially passes the plurality of photosensitive members. A controller(600) controls a rotation speed of the driving unit such that the difference of the recording member transfer speed according to the number of the photosensitive members with which the recording member contacts, to thus correct an overlap position error of the plurality of images. If it is assumed that an image length formed on the recording member by the final photosensitive member in the transfer direction of the recording member among the plurality of photosensitive members is a reference length, the controller controls the rotation speed of the driving unit to correct an error between the image length formed by other photosensitive members than the last one and the reference length.
