Abstract: A method of manufacturing spray formed metal tools is provided to manufacture spray formed metal tools with more increased strength by performing a hot pressing process using a hot press or a hot isostatic press before separating the thermal spray pattern and the thermal spray coating layer from each other after forming a thermal spray coating layer on a thermal spray pattern. A method of manufacturing a spray formed metal tool comprises: a step(S10) of making a thermal spray pattern; a step(S20) of thermal spraying metal onto the thermal spray pattern to form a thermal spray coating layer; a step(S30) of hot pressing the thermal spray pattern having the thermal spray coating layer formed thereon at a temperature of 600 to 900 deg.C; a step(S40) of separating the thermal spray coating layer from the thermal spray pattern; and a step(S50) of back-filling the thermal spray coating layer to manufacture a spray formed metal tool. The thermal spray pattern is made of ceramics or graphite in the step(S10). The metal in the step(S20) is carbon steel, or iron comprising chromium, silicon, and boron(Fe-Cr-Si-B). The hot pressing process in the step(S30) is performed by a hot press for heating and pressing the thermal spray coating layer-formed thermal spray pattern in a vacuum atmosphere, or a hot isostatic press for heating and pressing the thermal spray coating layer-formed thermal spray pattern in an inert gas atmosphere.

Abstract: An apparatus and a method for degassing of back-filling materials for spray formed metal tools are provided to reduce time required for performing a degassing operation and improve compressive strength of the spray formed metal tools by proceeding mixing of the back-filling materials and mixing of a hardening material in a vacuum atmosphere. An apparatus(100) for degassing of back-filling materials(150) for spray formed metal tools comprises: an agitating impeller(110) for agitating back-filling materials or a mixture of the back-filling materials and hardening materials; a vacuum chamber(130) having the agitating impeller mounted on a top part thereof; and a vacuum pump(140) connected to one side of the vacuum chamber. The apparatus further comprises a vessel(120) which is positioned within the vacuum chamber, and in which the back-filling materials are contained. A method for degassing of back-filling materials for spray formed metal tools comprises the steps of: (a) preparing a jig for back-filling a thermal spray coating layer; (b) mixing the back-filling materials under the vacuum atmosphere; (c) injecting hardening materials into the back-filling materials mixed in the step(b); (d) agitating the back-filling materials with the hardening materials under the vacuum atmosphere; and (e) injecting the back-filling materials mixed with the hardening materials into a backside of the thermal spray coating layer fixed by the jig.

Abstract: A back-filling apparatus of spray formed metal tools and a back-filling method using the same are provided to improve compressive strength by mixing a back-filling material and injecting the mixed back-filling material into a jig in a vacuum atmosphere, thereby preventing bubbles from forming in a back-filling layer. A manufacturing method of a spray formed metal tool by back-filling that fills a backside of a thermal spray coating layer(160) comprises the steps of: coating a thermal spray pattern with the thermal spray coating layer; separating the thermal spray pattern and the thermal spray coating layer; preparing a jig(150) within a vacuum chamber to fix the thermal spray coating layer such that the thermal spray coating layer is back-filled; mixing a back-filling material(115) that is any one selected from an epoxy resin, a mixture of the epoxy resin and a metal powder, and a metallic material; mixing an epoxy hardening material with the mixed back-filling material; injecting the mixed back-filling material into an injection case(110) which adjusts a discharge quantity of the back-filling material by an adjusting valve(120), and freely dropping the injected back-filling material into a vacuum chamber(130) in a vacuum state by a vacuum pump(140) such that the back-filling material is injected onto a backside of the thermal spray coating layer fixed by the jig; hardening the back-filling material stacked on the backside of the thermal spray coating layer; separating a back-filled spray formed metal tool from the jig; cutting the spray formed metal tool to mount the spray formed metal tool on an injection machine or a press machine; and subjecting the spray formed metal tool to heat treatment at a predetermined temperature.
