The invention comprises disperse monoazo dyes of formula wherein D is the radical of a diazo component of the benzene series free from acidic watersolubilizing groups R 1 is H or a C 1-4 alkoxy group, R 2 is H, Cl, Br or a C 1-4 alkyl, alkoxy or acylamino group, R 3 is a beta-hydroxy- or -cyano-ethyl group, R 4 is H or a C 1-4 alkyl group, R 5 is a C 1-4 alkyl group or a phenyl radical or the groups R 4 and R 5 may together form an oxazolidinone ring. The dyes are prepared by coupling diazonium compounds of amines D-NH 2 with appropriate coupling components. The dyes may be used to colour cellulose acetate and synthetic polyamide, polyurethane and polyester fibres in yellow, red and brown shades.
