An intraprediction method which improves compression efficiency using the symmetry of a video in the intraprediction of the video and a video encoding and decoding method and apparatus using the intraprediction method. The intraprediction method includes performing intraprediction by predicting a first region to be encoded in a video based on axial symmetry of a second region of the video with respect to a predetermined axis.
Abstract:
A color image encoding and decoding method and apparatus use a correlation between chrominance components in order to improve coding efficiency. The color image decoding method includes: transforming chrominance components of a color image in each of two or more inter-prediction modes, calculating costs for the conversion values in each of the two or more inter-prediction modes using a predetermined cost function, selecting one of the two or more inter-prediction modes based on the calculation result, and outputting conversion values of the selected inter-prediction mode; entropy encoding the output conversion values.
Abstract:
There are provided a method and apparatus for providing and receiving a video service in digital audio broadcasting (DAB). The video service providing method includes: storing information related to encoding of a provided video service stream and information related to packetization of the video service stream in a channel different from a service data channel; and multiplexing the information related to encoding of the video service stream and the information related to packetization of the video service stream to create a DAB transmission frame, and transmitting the DAB transmission frame. Therefore, by allowing different types of DAB receivers to uniformly process video services, it is possible to achieve high efficiency in video service processing and controlling.

A method of and apparatus for updating decoding information are provided. A method of transmitting media data includes generating a media stream including one or more media data items, one or more decoding information of the media stream, and information for arranging updating of the decoding information; and transmitting the media stream, the one or more decoding information item of the media stream, and the information for arranging updating of the decoding information, in which the one or more media data items have decoding information that are different from each other. According to the method and apparatus, the amount of data to be processed and the complexity of data processing can be reduced, thereby reducing an encoding time and a media data processing time in a decoder.

A data transmitter transmitting a data packet containing identifier information including a kind of data, a sequence of data, and/or a packet generating sequence. A receiver extracting a packet number and the identifier information for an error-receipt occurring data packet based upon the identifier information recorded in a header of the packet, generating retransmission control information, such as retransmission times and priority, based on the extracted packet number and the identifier information and transmitting the retransmission control information to the transmitter of the packet. The retransmitting the error-occurring data packet according to the received retransmission control information. The number of retransmissions and the retransmission priority can be varied according to characteristics of the transmitted data, so that retransmissions is suitable for the characteristics of the data and to more stably receive the data that is more influential to the restoration of the data.

Provided are an apparatus and method for providing an Internet Protocol Datacasting (IPDC) service in a Digital Audio Broadcasting (DAB) system. A digital broadcasting transmission apparatus for providing an IPDC service includes an IPDC processing unit which generates IP packet data by packetizing data to be transmitted and generates information on a configuration of the IP packet data; a service linkage information (SLI) processing unit which generates SLI which is linkage information between the IP packet data and an IP bearer which delivers the IP packet data; and a transmitter which multiplexes and transmits the SLI and the IP packet data. Accordingly, by generating and using SLI for linking a DAB system and an IPDC system, the DAB system can effectively provide an IPDC service.
Abstract:
Provided are a filtering method and apparatus for removing blocking artifacts and ringing noise. The filtering method includes transforming video data on a block-by-block basis, and detecting the presence of an edge region in the video data by checking the distribution of values obtained by the transformation. Accordingly, it is possible to completely remove blocking artifacts and/or ringing noise by more effectively detecting the presence of an edge region in video data.

A method for transmitting and/or receiving wireless data and an apparatus therefor are provided. The method includes the steps of (a) when the length of a collection of data in an application layer is longer than the length of the payload of a protocol which the lower layer supports, dividing the collection of data into a plurality of protocol units, and transmitting the protocol units of data after adding at least one of the length information and location information of the data divided into the protocol units; and (b) determining whether or not a loss of data occurred, by referring to the information on the length and location of data divided into the protocol units in the step (a), and inserting blank data into the part corresponding to the lost data to re-form the entire collection of data.

An image encoding and decoding method includes dividing an input image into a plurality of sub-planes by sub-sampling the input image, selecting one of the divided sub-planes and performing interprediction-encoding on the selected sub-plane, and performing interprediction-encoding on the remaining sub-planes based on motion vectors selected in interprediction-encoding of the selected sub-plane.
