Abstract: A method for determining a safe state for a vehicle includes disposing a camera at a vehicle and disposing an electronic control unit (ECU) at the vehicle. Frames of image data are captured by the camera and provided to the ECU. An image processor of the ECU processes frames of image data captured by the camera. A condition is determined via processing at the image processor of the ECU frames of image data captured by the camera. The condition includes a shadow present in the field of view of the camera within ten frames of image data captured by the camera or a damaged condition of the imager within two minutes of operation of the camera. The ECU determines a safe state for the vehicle responsive to determining the condition.

Abstract: A vehicular vision system includes a camera disposed at an in-cabin side of a windshield of a vehicle. Responsive to image processing at an ECU of captured frames of image data, the vehicular vision system detects an object present in a field of view of the camera. As the vehicle moves relative to the detected object, captured frames of image data are processed to determine a point of interest, present in multiple captured frames of image data, on the detected object. The vehicular vision system, via processing of captured frames of image data as the vehicle moves relative to the detected object, and based on the determined point of interest present in multiple captured frames of image data, estimates a location in three dimensional space of the determined point of interest and determines distance to the determined point of interest on the detected object.

Abstract: A vehicular vision system includes a plurality of surround view cameras disposed at a vehicle, an electronic control unit (ECU), and a video display screen disposed in the vehicle and viewable by a driver of the vehicle for displaying video images derived from image data captured by the surround view cameras. The vehicular vision system, responsive to determining an impending lane change of the equipped vehicle toward an adjacent traffic lane and responsive to processing at the ECU of image data captured by at least one of the surround view cameras of the plurality of surround view cameras, displays on the video display video images derived at least in part from image data captured by at least two of the side view cameras. The displayed video images include a portion of the adjacent traffic lane.

Abstract: A vision system for a vehicle includes a camera and an electronic control unit (ECU) with an image processor. The ECU generates a reduced resolution frame of captured image data and the ECU determines a reduced resolution detection result based on pedestrian detection using the reduced resolution frame of captured image data. The ECU, responsive to processing by the image processor of image data, generates a cropped frame of captured image data and the ECU determines a cropped detection result based on pedestrian detection using the cropped frame of captured image data. Responsive to determining the reduced resolution detection result and determining the cropped detection result, the ECU merges the reduced resolution detection result and the cropped detection result into a final pedestrian detection result. The final pedestrian detection result is indicative of presence of a pedestrian within the field of view of the camera.

Abstract: A vehicular trailer hitching assist system includes a camera disposed at a rear portion of a vehicle and viewing a trailer hitch disposed at the vehicle. Responsive to processing at an electronic control unit (ECU) of frames of image data captured by the camera, a feature of the trailer hitch is detected. The system, at least in part via processing at the ECU of at least one frame of image data captured by the camera, determines a ground location at the ground below the detected feature of the trailer hitch, and determines a location of the trailer hitch at the vehicle. The vehicle is maneuvered toward a trailer for hitching the trailer to the trailer hitch of the vehicle based at least in part on (i) the determined location of the trailer hitch and (ii) the height of the detected feature of the trailer hitch above the ground location.

Abstract: A method of calibrating a vehicular trailering assist system includes hitching a trailer to a vehicle having a rearward viewing camera. Frames of image data are captured by the camera when the vehicle is towing the trailer hitched to the vehicle to determine presence of the trailer and to determine if the particular trailer is a trailer for which the system is calibrated. Responsive to determination that the particular trailer is not a trailer for which the system is calibrated, the system assigns an initial trailer beam length before starting a calibration drive and collects data during the calibration drive. The system iteratively estimates the trailer beam length and, when the predicted trailer angle least deviates from the current determined trailer angle during the calibration drive, the system determines a final estimated trailer beam length for use by the vehicular trailering assist system in determining trailer angles.

Abstract: A vehicular vision system includes a plurality of cameras disposed at a vehicle and capturing image data as the equipped vehicle is driven along a traffic lane of a road. Captured image data is processed to detect a rearward-approaching vehicle and determine a path of travel of the detected rearward-approaching vehicle. Responsive to determining that the path of travel of the detected rearward-approaching vehicle is along a side traffic lane adjacent to the traffic lane along which the equipped vehicle is driven, the vehicular vision system (i) displays at a video display screen video images derived at least from image data captured by the side camera that is at the side portion of the equipped vehicle that is adjacent to the side traffic lane and (ii) overlays a transparent graphic overlay overlaying the displayed video images that is based on the determined path of travel of the detected rearward-approaching vehicle.

Abstract: A trailer assist system for a vehicle includes a camera disposed at a rear portion of a vehicle and viewing a trailer hitch disposed at the vehicle. A control includes an image processor that processes image data captured by the camera that is representative of images of the trailer hitch viewed by the camera. The control, responsive to processing at the control of image data captured by the camera, detects a feature of the trailer hitch at determines Cartesian coordinates of the trailer hitch location and transforms the Cartesian coordinates of the detected feature to cylindrical coordinates. The control, responsive at least in part to determining the cylindrical coordinates of the detected feature, determines a three-dimensional location of the trailer hitch at the vehicle.

Abstract: A vehicular trailer hitching assist system includes a camera disposed at a rear portion of a vehicle and viewing at least rearward of the vehicle. An electronic control unit (ECU) includes an image processor operable to process image data captured by the camera. The ECU, via image processing of image data captured by the camera, detects a trailer rearward of the vehicle and determines a first path of travel for the vehicle to follow to maneuver the vehicle toward the trailer and to align the tow ball of the vehicle with a trailer hitch of the trailer. The ECU generates an output to maneuver the vehicle along the determined first path of travel. Responsive to detection of an object entering the first path of travel, the ECU determines a second path of travel for the vehicle to follow that avoids the detected object entering the determined path of travel.

Abstract: A vision system of a vehicle includes a camera disposed at a vehicle and having a field of view exterior of the vehicle. The camera may have a wide angle lens with more distortion at side regions of the field of view than at a center region of the field of view. An image processor processes captured image data to determine gradient information of captured image data, and responsive to processing gradient information, determines a potential cross traffic object at one of the side regions of the field of view. The image processor processes multiple frames of captured image data to determine movement of an upper portion and a lower portion of a gradient of the determined potential cross traffic object and, responsive to such processing, determines if the detected potential cross traffic object is a cross traffic object that is moving into a path of the vehicle.
