    Abstract: A system and method for enabling parallel decoder implementation for different views, even when there are existing dependencies between views. In various embodiments of the present invention, information is signaled to a decoder that slices are coded using certain constraints, so that parallel decoding of slices is possible. This signaling can be performed at a sequence parameter set level, or it could be performed at picture parameter set level, slice header level or macroblock header level. Additionally, the delay between various views is also signaled to the decoder, at the same location as the constraint information in various embodiments. Various algorithms can also be used to improve the coding efficiency of the system.

    Abstract: A file format design supports storage of multi-source multimedia presentation via the inclusion of indications as to whether a presentation is a multisource presentation,and for one media type,the tracks of which are from different sources and should be played simultaneously. If a multi-source presentation exists,additional indications may be provided including: an indication of a multi-source presentation type being stored; indications regarding the source of each track and which tracks have the same source; indications of different parties' information such as phone numbers, etc. Thus, a player may playback a recorded presentation in the same or substantially the same manner as it was presented during the actual session, and may automatically manipulate the presentation to be more informative or efficient.     Abstract: The invention discloses a method of improving the playback of streamed media on a client device by overcoming problems caused by variations in the transmission delay of packets due to network and transport protocol operation and variations in encoding/server specific delays. In an embodiment of the invention, a client device has a decoder (120) and a pre-decoder buffer (110) which receives streamed packets from source server via a packet network. The pre-decoder buffer is variable in size and has a variable initial buffering time for receiving the transmitted packets from the source server prior to decoding in the decoder. The initial buffering time and pre-decoder buffer size can be dynamically adapted for improved playback performance by the source server. In a further aspect of the invention, a post-decoder buffer operates in conjunction with the pre-encoder buffer to reduce decoding-related delay variations.

    Abstract: The present invention relates to a method and a communication system for transmission of multimedia streams. Multimedia streams are transmitted in the communication system from a sending communication device to a receiving communication device at least partly via a wireless communication network.
