    Abstract: A hand vacuum cleaner has a cyclonic stage comprising an openable front wall provided at the front end of the cyclonic stage. A pre-motor filter is positioned in the air flow passage downstream from the cyclone air outlet and rearward of the cyclone sidewall. The pre-motor filter has a diameter in a direction transverse to the cyclone axis that is larger than a diameter of the cyclone air outlet in the direction transverse to the cyclone axis. The pre-motor filter has an outer perimeter defining a volume and the cyclone axis and the motor axis each extend through a centre of the volume. The cyclone axis is generally parallel to the motor axis. When the openable front wall is opened, the front end of the cyclone stage is opened and has an opening, the opening has a diameter in the direction transverse to the cyclone axis, and the rear end of the cyclonic stage has a diameter that is generally equal to the diameter of the opening. The cyclonic stage is removable from a cleaner body which houses the suction motor with the openable front wall in a closed position. When the first cyclonic stage is removed, the pre-motor filter is accessible for removal.

    Abstract: An HVAC system for a multi-unit building having a riser stack in flow communication with a single unit HVAC system. The single unit HVAC system has a first heat exchanger thermally connected to the riser stack, a second heat exchanger thermally connected to a fluid distribution system within the unit, and a closed loop fluid flow path extending between the first and second heat exchangers. The first heat exchanger exchanges heat between a riser stack fluid in the riser stack and the closed loop fluid in the closed loop fluid flow path and the second heat exchanger exchanges heat between the closed loop fluid and a distribution fluid of the fluid distribution system.

    Abstract: This disclosure provides a method of recycling heat during operation of a plant in which equipment for processing at least two different materials is co-located. The method comprises a first process for processing a first material and a second process for processing a second material. The second material has a melting point that is less than a melting point of the first material. During the first process, the first material is subjected to a first melting process and then subjected to a first cooling process that includes solidification of the first material. During the second process, the second material is subjected to a second melting process and then subjected to a second cooling process that includes solidification of the second material. The method comprises recovering heat from the first cooling process and using at least some of the heat as a heat source for the second melting process.

    Abstract: A feeder for an extruder includes a feed flow passage extending in an axial direction from a feeder inlet to a feeder outlet, and an axially extending rotatable screw provided in the feed flow passage. Rotation of the screw draws a feedstock in a direction of flow to the feeder outlet. The feeder inlet has an inlet passage that overlies the screw. The inlet passage has a width in a plane transverse to the axial direction, and the width decreases in the direction of flow.

    Abstract: A surface cleaning apparatus has a filtration member housing which includes a cyclone. A plate is positioned at the dirt outlet end of the cyclone chamber. A first portion of the plate abuts the cyclone chamber sidewall. A second portion of the plate is axially spaced apart from and faces an edge of the cyclone sidewall and is also laterally spaced apart from a sidewall of the filtration member housing. The cyclone dirt outlet is at least partially bounded by the first edge and the second portion of the plate whereby dirt exiting the cyclone chamber via the dirt outlet travels in a generally outwardly direction.
