Abstract: Methods, systems, and devices for wireless communications are described. In some examples, a base station may identify one or more communication paths to a user equipment (UE), and may determine an end-to-end signal quality for each communication path (e.g., a signal-to-noise ratio (SNR)), one or more hop SNR values for each hop of each communication path, a ratio of the hop SNR values and the end-to-end SNR of each communication path, or a combination thereof. Based on the determined SNR values, ratios, or both, the base station may select a first communication path for a first type of communications (e.g., uplink, downlink, signal type, or the like) and a second communication path for a second type of communications (e.g., uplink, downlink, signal type, or the like), and may communicate with the UE using the selected communication paths.

The wireless device may select, based at least in part on the determining, a second resolution for a second analog-to-digital or digital-to-analog conversion process associated with a second wireless communication, the first resolution being a lower resolution than the second resolution.

Abstract: When a first node is subject to a maximum permissible exposure (MPE) condition, it may be beneficial for the first node to signal, to a second node, an uplink beam to be used for communications and/or one or more properties of the uplink beam. For example, the first node may signal a downlink beam, from a first reciprocal beam pair, and an uplink beam, from a second reciprocal beam pair, to be used for communications, and/or may signal one or more properties of the uplink beam and/or the downlink beam. Additionally, or alternatively, the second node may transmit, to the first node, a signaling state (e.g., a transmission configuration indication (TCI) state) that indicates properties to be used to configure an uplink beam and/or a downlink beam. In this way, the first node and the second node may configure beams in a manner that accounts for MPE limitations.

A base station may transmit, to a user equipment (UE) operating in a discontinuous reception mode, a wakeup signal indicating whether data is available to be transmitted to the UE, the wakeup signal transmitted using a first set of transmit beams, which may be selected from a periodic beam management procedure, in accordance with a beam sweeping configuration. The base station may receive, from the UE and based at least in part on the wakeup signal, a response signal. The base station may perform, based at least in part on the response signal, further beam update procedures to identify a second set of transmit beams for future transmissions of the wakeup signal and/or for transmission of physical downlink control channel (PDCCH) to the UE.

Abstract: Methods, systems, and devices for wireless communication are described. A base station may initiate a beam management procedure, including reference signal transmission to a user equipment (UE) and receive beam training. A base station may configure a UE to monitor a set of beams for reference signals. Based on the received reference signals, the UE may optionally select one or more transmit beams for wakeup signal reception, and may transmit an indication of the selected beams to the base station. The base station may transmit a wakeup signal over the originally configured or the UE-selected transmit beams to initiate wake-up procedure at the UE. The base station and UE may subsequently perform a refined beam management procedure, providing a refined reference signal transmission from the base station. Based on the received transmission, the UE may select a refined beam for downlink transmissions.

The base station may initiate a beam management procedure based at least in part on identifying that the data is available to be transmitted to the UE, to identify a second transmit beam for the base station to use to transmit the available data to the UE, wherein the second transmit beam comprises a narrower beam width than the first transmit beam.

Because SSs are intended to be broadcast across a wide coverage area in a beamformed manner, the SSs represent a promising complement to existing beam management techniques. Accordingly, beam management may be achieved at least in part based on reporting one or more metrics of beamformed SSs through a channel feedback framework.
