Abstract: An optical recording medium is provided which has a substrate and a signal recording layer provided on the substrate and in which an information signal is recorded in the form of microscopic pits. A light beam is focused on the signal recording layer and some change of the light beam carried by a return light from the signal recording layer is detected to read the information signal recorded on the signal recording layer. The optical recording medium has a diameter of 65 mm or less and a thickness of 0.4 to 0.7 mm. An information signal recording area extends outwardly from a radial position of 12.5 mm or less from the center of the medium. The ratio in area between the information signal recording area and non-signal recording area is 3.4 or more. The storage capacity of this medium is 2 gigabytes or more. The optical recording medium has formed at the center thereof a center hole around which an annular table-abutment convexing to one side of the medium is formed. A magnetic-clamping hub is installed in the center hole and thus the medium is magnetically clamped to a rotation driving mechanism of an optical recording and/or reproducing apparatus. The compactness and high density of recording of the optical recording medium will contribute greatly to a further compact structure of a recording and/or reproducing apparatus in which the medium is to be used.

Abstract: Between the invented reproducing apparatus output terminal (26, 28) and a system decoder (21) there is introduced a buffer memory means (22) for separating data stream being supplied from a reproducing head (100A) and from the system decoder (21), from signals transmitted to the output terminal (26, 28) and outward from the system. The buffer memory means (22) is connected with a system controller (7) being also provided with a first control output (200A) for controlling a first data transmission rate on the input side of the buffer memory means (22) and a second control (300A) for controlling a second data transmission rate on the output side, whereby the first data transmission rate is greater than the second one. The buffer memory means (22) is provided with a control input (500A) from the system controller (7) for control signal of continuous passage of the given amount of data from memory area of the memory means (22) toward the output terminal (26, 28). The memory means (22) input and output are controlled in such a manner as to store in the memory at least as much data, as much is the predetermined amount of data representing a minimum reserve of signal data. The system controller (7) is connected through a control input line (600A) with the reproducing head (100A) control unit for controlling continuous flow of the signal data, transmitted from a partial memory area on the basis of a control signal applied to the control input (500A) and namely synchronously with the sequence of recording positions being read from a recording medium.

Abstract: In a memory control device (12) for controlling write-in/read-out operation for memory means (13), a sector data storing area and an additive area are set in each of sector-based data storing areas in the memory means. A prescribed datum is stored in the additive area associated with the sector-based data stored in the sector data storing area. The access addresses for the additive area are generated on the basis of the sector count value when the sector data write-in or read-out is carried out in the memory means (13). The access addresses are calculated by the memory control device (12).

Abstract: A data reproducing apparatus for reproducing main data from a disc (2) on which a data string comprised of the main data and auxiliary data appended to the main data at intervals of predetermined lengths of the main data, which main data are previously error correction coded input digital data. The main data are separated from data read from the disc (2) and error corrected in a decoder (6). The error-corrected data are stored in a memory (8). The data stored in the memory (8) are continuously read by a readout control circuit (7). Data patterns before and after connecting portions of the main data written in or read from the memory (8) are compared in a comparator (73) and the next data are contiuously reproduced at a time point when the data pattern coincidence is detected in the comparator (73).

Abstract: A disc reproducing apparatus is provided comprising reproducing means (12) for reproducing recording data recorded on an optical disc (1), decoding means (9) for decoding the recording data and detecting error of the decoded data and memory means (6) for transiently storing decoded data from the decoding means (9) at a first rate, wherein the decoding data stored in the memory means (6) are read out at a second rate smaller than the first rate and supplied to an output. A storage region in said memory means (6) is divided into at least a data storage region for storing the voice data and an auxiliary data storage region for storing auxiliary data concerning the voice data. A memory controlling means (8) controls recording and readout in said at least two areas of the memory means (6). It thus becomes possible to write or read plural types of data on and from the same RAM.

The optical head device (4) radiates a light beam having an intensity which is enough to record the data on the optical recording medium (1). The optical head device (4) includes a detector. The controller (11) controls the recording head apparatus and receives an output signal supplied from the detector. The optical head device (4) is controlled to move a recording start point from the previous recording start point by a predetermined value when the controller (11) detects the occurrence of a recording error according to the output signal from the detector and restarted to record the data from the moved recording start point on the optical recording medium (1).

Abstract: A memory controller (12) is equipped with a memory data search circuit (35) for carrying out an identifying operation of management information corresponding to a segment located in front of or behind a segment serving as a reference for an editing operation on a recording medium (1) through search and comparison processing of managing information (U-TOC). A system controller (11) does not receive search data and execute the data search but only sets the comparison standard and an initial value and outputs an execution control signal. The editing operation performed reduces wasted space on the recording medium (1), such as a disc, and eliminates "trash areas" which are not addressable in the U-TOC.
