    Abstract: A self-cleaning strainer comprises a vertically disposed housing which contains a rotatable strainer basket. The housing has an open top, closed by a closure plate, an inlet adjacent the top of the housing and an outlet adjacent a closed bottom of the housing, the closed bottom having a flush discharge opening. The components used to rotate the strainer basket are disposed outside the flow of any water containing particulates that enters the housing. Cleaning devices such as a scraper blade supported in the strainer basket, a rotatable brush supported in the strainer basket, and a water jet manifold disposed between the housing sidewall and the sidewall of the strainer basket are used to clean the rotatable strainer basket.

    Abstract: An apparatus for removing solid particles from cooling water having a tubular housing (1), a funnel-shaped trap sieve (4) attached to the inner housing wall with the tip facing in the flow direction, and a pressurized water sprayer (11). The sprayer includes a washer arm (14), concentrally rotatable about the downstream side (23) of trap sieve (4), and having at least one slit nozzle (15) directed toward the downstream surface (23). A suction tube (8) extends into a collecting chamber (10) of trap sieve (4). To prevent large particles from jamming rotating components, trap sieve (4) is cleaned by spraying water only against the downstream side. The tip of the sieve is defined by a cylindrical container (5) having a closed bottom (6). The intake end (9) of suction tube (8) extends into the container. Wash water is introduced into washer arm (14) through an inner end fixedly attached to a hollow flange (13) mounted on a rotary shaft (12) of pressurized spray apparatus (11). The hollow flange has a rim (19) in direct communication with a bearing defined by a wash water distribution chamber connected to a wash water inlet conduit and fixedly mounted to the housing.

    Abstract: There is provided a fluid filter system cleanable by suction.     Abstract: A self-cleaning filter assembly for removing solids from an incoming liquid to be filtered. A filter element is fixed substantially coaxially within a housing and spaced from the peripheral wall thereof by an annular solids collection space in turn communicating with a solids outlet. An inlet introduces pressurized liquid to be filtered circumferentially into the solids collection space. A shower assembly rotates coaxially within the filter element and includes an eccentric portion having jets distributed along the length of the filter element and aimed outward close to the inner surface of the filter element. Backwash liquid enters the rotating shower assembly under pressure for continuously pushing solids off the outer surface of the filter element as the shower assembly circumferentially advances in the housing. Filtrate from inside the filter element passes through a filtrate outlet extending from the housing. A solids outlet valve responds to a preselected increase in liquid pressure differential between the inlet and filtrate outlet by opening to increase venting of the annular solids collection space. A filtrate outlet valve may simultaneously close to direct all liquid flow into the housing out the solids outlet.

    Abstract: A backwash filtration system comprising a backwash discharge port, a sedimentation collection and separation system, and a final filtration chamber. The backwash discharge port is coupled with a pool filter system and is configured to pass backwashed water from the pool filter system to the sedimentation collection and separation system. The sedimentation collection and separation system has a plurality of sedimentation chambers that are vertically stacked and a plurality of baffles configured to reduce the migration of sediment within the sedimentation chambers. A path for water flow passes down sequentially through each of the sedimentation chambers. The final filtration chamber receives the backwashed water from the sedimentation collection and separation system, filters the backwashed water through a final filtration medium, and passes the filtered water to a water return line of the pool filter system or to a pool of water.
