    Abstract: A supporting bracket for windows which can be used on any side of a window and which can be mounted using existing central mount installation tooling is disclosed. The supporting bracket uses dual sided containment of the vent bar end for preventing sash play and uses camming surfaces to allow for immediate sash pull in which prevents weather-strip problems and prevents the supporting bracket from binding during an opening operation. In some embodiments, an end cap engages opposite sides of a symmetric vent bar end. In another embodiment, a pin attached to the vent bar is engaged on opposite sides by a track formed within the main track of the supporting bracket. In all embodiments, the vent bar and the link pivotally connecting the vent bar to the track are prevented from moving in a direction opposite the direction of opening during an opening operation. The arms of the supporting bracket may have fully rounded edges for preventing binding between adjacent arms during load. Also, the vent bar end and corresponding structure for dual sided containment in each embodiment are symmetrically shaped so that the supporting bracket may be utilized on any side of a window.

    Abstract: An elevator car has a drive mechanism mounted in a compact housing on the upper surface of the car. The drive mechanism includes a rotatable drive shaft, around which is mounted a linear actuator block having a plurality of ball bearings, obliquely arranged relative to the shaft, and firmly touching the shaft. Rotation of the shaft by a motor makes the block move linearly along the shaft. A bracket attached to the block carries an elevator door. Rotation of the shaft therefore opens and closes the door. The direction of movement of the block, and hence the door, depends on the direction of rotation of the shaft. The drive mechanism is compact and simple, and can be applied to new elevators or can be used to retrofit existing elevator cars.

    Abstract: A connection for adjustably holding two window hardware members in pivotally connected relationship, including a first hardware member with a first cylindrical opening, a second hardware member with a second cylindrical opening, and a stud. The stud has a flange having two substantially parallel faces and a peripheral surface therebetween, with a rivet portion projecting from one face and a pivot portion projecting from the other face. The rivet portion includes a cylindrical neck extending through the first cylindrical opening and a head on the end of the neck, the flange and the head engaging opposite sides of the first hardware member to frictionally secure the stud against freely pivoting relative to the track. The pivot portion includes a cylindrical shaft eccentric from the cylindrical neck and extending through the second cylindrical opening. A C-ring is disposed in an external peripheral groove in the pivot portion to secure the second hardware member thereto for pivoting about the cylindrical shaft. A part of the C-ring is in the peripheral groove and a part extends radially beyond the pivot portion periphery when the C-ring is in a securing position. The peripheral groove has a depth to enable deformation of the C-ring by movement of the spaced-apart ends towards each other to a release position in which substantially all of the C-ring is in the peripheral groove. The stud flange peripheral surface is engageable with a tool to allow for adjustment of the pivotal connection by pivoting the stud.

    Abstract: A window stay for adjustable mounting of a window sash into a window frame which comprises a first mounting plate adapted for attachment to the frame of a window and a second mounting plate adapted for attachment to the sash of a window. A carriage is slidably mounted on the first mounting plate. An arm is pivotally connected by one end to the sash mounting plate and by the other end to the frame mounting plate. The sash mounting plate is further pivoted but at a point remote from the pivot coupling the arm to the frame mounting plate to the slidably mounted carriage. Means are provided which cause the carriage to be angularly displaced relative to the frame mounting plate during the initial opening and closing.
