Abstract:
PURPOSE: An image reading apparatus is provided to suppress a change of return resistance of a manuscript in a manuscript reading area, thereby restricting return speed of the manuscript. CONSTITUTION: A through hole(263) of a protrusion unit of a depth side of a manuscript return unit(250) is inserted into a pin of a depth-sided end part of a reinforcing member(230). A depressed part(273) of a protrusion unit of the front side of the manuscript return unit is inserted into a pin of a front-sided end part of the reinforcing member. Therefore, the manuscript return unit is horizontally positioned for the reinforcing member. The manuscript return unit can move upward/downward in the range of the interval between the protrusion unit and the head of a screw.
Abstract:
PURPOSE: A scanner and an image forming apparatus including the same are provided to move a scanning sensor to a focus direction without separate power source, thereby reducing manufacturing cost. CONSTITUTION: A scanning unit(110) is moved according to a scanning direction and scans an image of a manuscript. A lack(120) is installed in a main body according to the scanning direction. A focus control unit(140) interacts with the rack, and enables the scanning unit move to a focus direction perpendicular to the scanning direction. The focus control unit interacts with the rack, and includes a rotatable gear in order to enable the scanning unit move to the focus direction.
Abstract:
A scanning head comprises a support member (2) for supporting the head in pressing contact with a platen (26). The support member has lower strength portions (A) spaced longitudinally of the head, and higher strength portions (B) alternate with the lower strength portions. The support member is easily bendable at the lower strength portions, and the higher strength portions are urged by springs (27) toward the platen. Thus, the head can come into intimate pressing contact with the platen even if the surface flatness of the support member as a whole is not strictly realized.

An optical unit assembly is provided with an optical system including an optical component for irradiating a target object with light and receiving the reflected light, a casing for accommodating the optical system, a supporting frame for supporting a part of the casing, and a height adjusting member having a supporting surface for supporting another part of the casing and placed between the supporting frame and the casing. The height adjusting mechanism is slidable between the supporting frame and the casing with a supported state of the casing by the supporting frame substantially maintained, and the supporting surface includes at least a first supporting surface set at a specified first height position and a second supporting surface set at a second height position different from the first height position.

A document platen. A support member supports an end portion of the document platen from below in a sub scanning direction. A sensor module has a first protruding portion protruding in the sub scanning direction. The sensor module includes a first sensor, and a second sensor being shorter than the first sensor in length and being housed into the first protruding portion. A transport unit transports the sensor module in the sub scanning direction. When the sensor module is transported to an end part in the sub scanning direction, the support member is housed into a space disposed at a side of the first protruding portion in a main scanning direction.

PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an image reading apparatus capable of turning on a lamp, which is bad in the dark startability, without increasing an equipment cost, and to provide its control method. SOLUTION: The apparatus includes a reflective original lamp used as a light source for irradiating the surface of a reflective original with light, a carriage which is mounted with the reflective original lamp and an image sensor, which detects and converts light into electric signals, and reciprocates in a sub-scanning direction, an indicator lamp that emits light to indicate the status of a device, and a decision unit which decides whether the reflective original lamp lights up by the use of the image sensor. When it is decided by the decision unit that the reflective original lamp does not light up, the carriage is moved to a prescribed position to enable the indicator lamp to irradiate the reflective original lamp with light.
