Abstract: 1310269 Hydrocarbon conversion catalysts UNIVERSAL OIL PRODUCTS CO 1 July 1970 [3 July 1969] 31807/70 Heading B1E [Also in Division C5] Catalysts comprise platinum, rhenium, germanium, and optionally a halogen, on a porous carrier. They may be formed by impregnating the carrier with compounds of the metals and any halide, drying and calcining in air. The metal oxides are preferably reduced with hydrogen in the absence of water and the reduced catalyst may be sulphided.

Abstract: 1,199,683. Hydrocarbon conversion. INSTITUT NEFTEKHIMICHESKOGO SINTE AN SSSR. 8 March, 1968 [8 March, 1967; 9 March, 1967; 28 April, 1967 (3)], No. 11500/68. Heading C5E. C 2-20 hydrocarbons are subjected to dehydrogenation, dehydrocyclization and/or hydrodealkylation reactions at 150-600‹ C. over a catalyst comprising a palladium alloy containing at least one of the following: copper, silver, gold, boron, or a Group VIII metal (other than palladium). The catalyst may be in the form of a membrane which is selectively permeable to hydrogen only, other catalyst forms being mentioned. The hydrocarbon may be fed to the catalyst in a stream of a gas that is chemically inert to the catalyst, e.g. N 2 , He, A or H 2 . The following conversions are specifically exemplified: 2 - methyl - butene - 1 to isoprene; isopentane to a mixture of isopentene and isoprene; n-hexane to benzene; n-heptane to toluene and benzene; n-octane to toluene, benzene and lesser amounts of other aromatics; n-decane to benzene and toluene; toluene to benzene; and ethylbenzene to toluene and benzene.
