Abstract:
A process for making thin, microporous fluorcarbon polymer sheet material by mixing fluorocarbon polymer particles and metallic salt particles; forming the resultant mixture into a sheet material; and removing the metallic salt particles from the sheet material.
Abstract:
A battery has a wrapper member comprising the combination of an inner layer which is pervious to gases generated by the cell and an outer layer which is impervious to liquids and which is less pervious than the inner layer to the gases generated by the cell. The inner and outer layers are laminated to one another throughout some but not all of their coextensive surfaces, with the unlaminated portions providing a passageway between the two layers for the venting of gases generated on the interior of the battery; the passageway communicates with the exterior of the battery. Preferably the inner and outer layers have coextensive surfaces which cover the entire area enclosed by the peripheral seal of the battery, and the inner layer extends into the area of and forms a component of the peripheral seal; in that case the gas passageway may extend to the area above the seal. Preferably the inner layer is an electrically conductive plastic and the outer layer is a metal.
Abstract:
A compact device projects Standard 8 and Super 8 film on a self contained screen. The films are continuous and are contained in individual film cartridges. Insertion of the film cartridge serves to adjust the viewer for the particular film contained therein. The adjustments include setting of mask size, mask position, image position on screen, stopping point of the film advance claw, adjustment of film advance stroke and lateral position of the film advance claw. The viewer will advance the film even when the film advance opening is damaged.
Abstract:
A bi-functional gas electrode is described suitable for use in a rechargeable gas-metal cell or gas-metal oxide cell. A grid structure such as nickel screen is coated with carbonized nickel powder bonded in place by an organic polymer. The electrode is waterproofed by adhering a sheet of microporous polyfluorohydrocarbon on one of the surfaces of the electrode. The electrode is suitable for use with such gasses as oxygen, hydrogen carbon monoxide, and numerous carbon hydrogen compounds.
Abstract:
An electric lantern has a case in two portions which may be opened to permit replacement of batteries without disengagement of the other components from the upper portion of the case. Means are provided to retain the lamp and upper portion of the battery case as retained members of a structurally engaged assembly which may be disengaged from the lower portion of the battery case. As a separate feature, a lens may be disengaged from the battery case to permit replacement of the electric lamp without opening the battery case. A rod is used as a member of the engagement means which hold the lantern components together; in addition, the rod may be part of the lantern''s electrical circuit. The electrical circuit may be designed so that it is opened when the battery case is opened and/or when the lens is disengaged from the battery case.
Abstract:
A COMPOSITION OF MATTER IS PROVIDED SUITABLE FOR APPLYING A TRANSPARENT NON-FOGGING COATING TO A NORMALLY FOGGING TRANSPARENT OR REFLECTING SUBSTRATE. THE COMPOSITION TYPICALLY COMPRISES A HIGHLY CROSS-LINKED ALKYLENE IMINE POLYMER REACTION PRODUCT OF THE POLYALKYLENE IMINE WITH A EPOXY SUBSTITUTED CARBOXYLIC ESTER AND EPIHALOHYDRIN.
Abstract:
A GAS-DEPOLARIZABLE GALVANIC CELL HAVING AN INSERT MOLDED CATHODE SUBASSEMBLY IS DISCLOSED. THE CATHODE SUBASSEMBLY HAS PORTIONS THEREOF FORMED OF ELECTRICALLY NONCONDUCTIVE MATERIAL AND A PORTION THEREOF COMPRISED OF A GAS-DEPOLARIZABLE ELECTRODE.
Abstract:
A hinge for use with molded plastic parts and, in particular, for spectacles comprises two parallel bosses with sockets therein forming a part of the spectacle frame. A temple body has two pin arms formed thereon each pin arm including a projecting pin. A slot separates the two pin arms and permits assembly of the hinge. A pin arm locking bar is formed as a part of the temple body and is attached thereto by a web thin enough to be flexible. Cooperating locking means are formed on the locking bar and the pin arms. When the projecting pins are located in the sockets in the bosses and pin arm locking bar is forced between the pin arms, a simple permanent hinge is formed.
Abstract:
A METALLIC POWDER COMPRISING CADMIUM, NICKEL AND A CADMIUM NICKEL INTERMETALLIC COMPOUND IS PREPARED BY REACTING IN AN AQUEOUS ACIDIC SOLUTIONN CADMIUM AND NICKEL SALTS WITH A METAL LESS NOBLE THAN CADMIUM AND NICKEL. THE POWDER SO PRODUCED HAS HIGH SURFACE AREA, HIGH ELECTRICAL ACTIVITY AND IS EASILY FABRICATED INTO BATTERY PLATES.
Abstract:
In a pulse generating circuit, such as an implantable cardiac pacer having parallel connected batteries as its power supply, additional resistors are connected between the power supply and the pulse generating circuit of the pacer and form a part of the pulse generating circuit to indicate by a change in pulse rate when one or more cells of the batteries of the power supply fail prematurely.
