Abstract: A method for providing uplink link adaptation in 5G base stations is presented. In one embodiment the method includes computing a RSSI of each allocation measuredRSSI(i), including blocks which are unused; computing measurements upon receiving channel allocation and TPC commands from a MAC, the measurements including a revisedWidebandRSSI including a revisedRSSI(i), a lowest relative threshold of each allocation, and a revised RSSI of each allocation after applying TPC commands normalized by the revisedWidebandRSSI; when the revisedWidebandRSSI is greater than a widebandRSSlthreshold, then resetting the TPC commands to be sent to the particular UE and sending a saturation_error_indication message to the MAC; wherein when a revisedRSSlnorm(i) for at least one allocation is below the widebandRSSlthreshold, sending the quant_loss_error_indication message to the MAC along with the corresponding index of the allocation; and adapting the MCS and power control information for each of the allocations in the next subframe.

Abstract: A method for combining two radio access network (RAN) cells into a virtual cell is disclosed, comprising: at a coordinating node, assigning a virtual cell identifier for a virtual cell, assigning a plurality of base stations to the virtual cell, and scheduling resources for a user equipment (UE) at each base station in the virtual cell; and at a base station of the plurality of base stations, constructing a signal containing two cell identifiers, the two cell identifiers being the virtual cell identifier and a physical cell identifier of the base station, and sending the signal to the UE, thereby improving performance for the UE at a cell edge of the first base station and of the second base station.

Abstract: Dynamic Traffic Control (DTC) aims at balancing network capacity demand and supply at a finer grain to minimize capacity buffer always comfortably meeting the demand trends. Resiliency of DTC enables handling traffic management of network regions that have gone thru equipment replacement, or upgrades, or service expansions. DTC should be a fully automated close-loop control process in managing regional traffic without human intervention but reporting benefits measuring improvements from a baseline. In one embodiment, a method of providing dynamic traffic control includes forecasting, using a model, network traffic build up over a region ahead of time; and adjusting network capacity to match a forecasted demand from the model, allowing a precise control of capacity and demand closely matched all times. In another embodiment a system for dynamic traffic control includes a traffic predictor; a controller in communication with the traffic predictor; a Key Performance Indicator (KPI) collector in communication with the traffic predictor; a region manager in communication with the traffic predictor and the controller; a model manager in communication with the traffic predictor and the controller; an action recommender in communication with the controller; and wherein the system forecasts network buildup over a region ahead of time and recommends network capacity adjustments.

Abstract: The present invention provides UE mobility context creation at RIC/ORAN in 4G and 5G systems.
