Abstract:
An improved multi-ply absorbent consumer paper product (12) includes a first ply of absorbent paper web (14) having a first substantially regular pattern of pixel-like projections defined thereon and a second ply of absorbent paper web (16) having a second substantially regular pattern of pixel-like projections defined thereon. The second ply (16) is laminated to the first ply (14) so that the pixel-like projections of the first ply (14) are positioned substantially in abutment with corresponding pixel-like projections of the second ply (16), to form projection couples. A glue/dye material (38) is positioned between the first (14) and second (16) plies to selected projection couples (50), but not elsewhere on the first (14) and second (16) plies, in a predetermined decorative pattern. This ensures that the decorative pattern is defined in pixel-like fashion and will visibly coincide with the interface between the (i) relative puffiness of the unglued areas and the (ii) relative compaction of the glued areas, creating a striking visual effect. A method of making the product is also disclosed.
Abstract:
Disclosed is an apparatus for diluting and dispensing fluid concentrates which comprises a frame (12;14) having at least one compartment (18) therein for insertion of a liquid holding container (20). Mounted within the frame is a water valve housing (24) which is adapted to interface with a venturi housing (22) affixed to the liquid holding container (20). The water valve housing (24) has affixed thereto a valve (27), preferably a solenoid valve, which is manually actuated e.g. by moving a magnet into and out of close proximity with the stem of the solenoid valve. The water valve housing (24) includes locking means (138) for preventing the valve from being operated by the manual actuation means (26) when the liquid holding container (20) is not properly inserted into the dilution station. The refill modules of the present invention include the venturi housing (22) and liquid holding container (20) mentioned above. The venturi housing (22) preferably has an unlocking means (68) extending therefrom which engages and unlocks the locking means (38) of the water valve housing (24) when the refill is properly installed in the dilution station. Insertion of the refill makes a sealed connection to the water valve, vents the refill, locks the refill into position and releases the operation of the manual valve actuation. The discharge tube (28) is "D" shaped to prevent spraying solution on to the operator in the event of over filling the bottle. The venturi housing (22) is preferably integrally formed with a mounting bracket (40) for mounting to the container (20). Normally contained within the venturi housing (22) is a venturi tube (80) which is affixed to the venturi housing (22) by means of a plurality of struts (82,83) extending from the venturi tube (80) in engaging ports (56) in the venturi housing (22). The venturi tube (80) is preferably moulded to provide the exact dilution ratio for the specific solution in the refill thereby guaranteeing the precise dilution of solution dispensed. The venturi plugs into the housing and accomplishes a seal by use of press fitting tapers.
Abstract:
There is disclosed a cabinet for dispensing a web wound on a core, the cabinet having a door (17) and means (32,33) for supporting the roll (30) in the cabinet, said supporting means (32,33) having at least one arm (91) spreadable in the axial direction of the roll (30) to facilitate mounting a new roll in the cabinet, means (94), mounted in the cabinet, responsive to the position of the door for stabilizing the spreadable arm (91), the arm stabilizing means (94) having a first position that allows spreading of the one arm (91) when the door is open and a second position that limits spreading of the one arm (91) when the door is closed.
Abstract:
There is disclosed a rolled paper embossing dispenser which in one version comprises a cabinet (10) in which two parallel embossing rollers (30F,30R) are rotatably arranged and spring-biased together to define a nip (34) through which a paper web is pulled while being embossed. Preferably each embossing roller (30F,30R) comprises a metal axle (52,54) embedded in a plastic embossing portion (100F,100R). The embossing portion preferably comprises a plurality of axially spaced discs (104F,104R) which are axially offset relative to the discs (104F,104R) of the other roller. Each disc preferably comprises a plurality of circumferentially successive knuckles (108F,108R) interconnected by flats. The knuckles (108F,108R) of axially adjacent discs (104F,104R) of each roller are preferably circumferentially offset. Both embossing rollers (30F,30R) are preferably formed simultaneously in a common mould whereby both plastic embossing portions are subjected to identical moulding conditions to achieve identical dimensional tolerances. A threading roller (120) is preferably provided for automatically feeding a paper web into the nip.
Abstract:
Modified polysaccharide materials comprising the reaction product of water-wettable polysaccharide with N,N'-methylenebisacrylamide and methods of making same. The materials are useful in the preparation of products characterized by their increased bulk and absorbency.
