Abstract:
A device for delivering an occlusive element includes an elongate sheath having a lumen therein. An elongate core member is disposed within the lumen and is formed from a proximal portion and distal portion connected via a joint. The distal portion of the elongate member includes a severable junction secured to the occlusive element. A marker coil is coaxially arranged around the distal portion of the elongate core member and is partially disposed inside the sheath lumen. A coil member is coaxially arranged around the distal portion of the elongate core member and coaxially arranged around at least a portion of the marker coil extending outside the lumen of the sheath. The coil member is secured at a distal end thereof to the distal portion of the elongate core member. The device resists axial compression while allowing for radial bending.
Abstract:
The present invention provides use of a morphogen for the manufacture of a medicament for alleviating cancer symptoms, wherein the morphogen inhibits cancer cell growth and is selected from the group consisting of: BMP-9, BMP-11, BMP-14, BMP-15, GDF-8, GDF-9, GDF-11, ADMP and NEURAL.
Abstract:
An apparatus and method are disclosed for accurately detecting the detachment of both electrically conductive and non-conductive implants which have been introduced to and are intended to remain at a desired therapeutic site. The detachment detection apparatus may include a conductive or an electrically-isolated implant, such as a vasoocclusive coil, connected to a wire by an electrolytically severable joint. The detachment assembly further includes a power supply having a direct current drive circuit for supplying a direct current to the joint, an alternating current drive circuit for independently supplying an alternating current to the joint, and an alternating current monitoring circuit for monitoring an alternating current level of the alternating current supplied to the joint. The detection assembly includes a central processing unit for selecting a first mode and a second mode for determining a detachment threshold level indicating detachment of the implant. Additionally, a direct current monitoring circuit is provided for measuring a direct current impedance level of the direct current supplied to the joint wherein a percentage increase in the direct current impedance level indicates detachment of the implant if the alternating current level is greater than the detachment threshold level.
Abstract:
Disclosed herein are heretofore undescribed preparations of highly concentrated, solubilized proteins, such as but not limited to, Bone Morphogenetic Proteins. Such protein preparations can be formulated in an aqueous carrier at protein concentrations in excess of 10 mg/ml when using the methods of manufacture taught herein. Such methods yield stable protein preparations in either solubilized or lyophilized form. The protein preparations of the present invention are particularly beneficial when administered either locally or systemically, in part, because low administration volumes can be accomplished. This is especially important for local treatment of certain anatomic locations such as, for example, the synovial fluid of a joint when treating osteoarthritis with BMP-7 or the intradiscal space when treating degenerative disc disease with BMP-7.
