PURPOSE: An apparatus and a method for correcting colors of vertically divided pictures of a digital television are provided to selectively correct the picture quality of a display and correct color characteristic. CONSTITUTION: A radio input unit(100) includes a color conversion component input unit(110) outputting a color conversion component signal and a motion picture control component signal, a color conversion component processor(120) for selecting components included in the color conversion component signal and the motion picture control component signal to output the components as a single color conversion signal, and an encoding unit(130) for encoding the color conversion signal into an optical signal. An image reproducing unit(200) includes a decoder(210) for decoding the color conversion signal encoded by the encoder of the radio input unit, an MPEG2 decoder(220) for decoding a digital TV video signal received through an antenna, a color conversion controller(230) for converting the color of the digital TV video signal according to the color conversion components included in the color conversion signal and outputting the video signal as a corrected video signal, and a video processor(240).

PURPOSE: A device and a method for generating a natural image of a digital television are provided to apply a matrix coefficient for generating a natural image to a chip set of color conversion, and then to correct an input image for colors of sky blue, flesh tone, etc., thereby factually approaching natural colors. CONSTITUTION: An input image converter(210) converts digital RGB(Red/Green/Blue) signals into a value of L*a*b. A natural color extractor(220) discriminates whether pixels of an input image have a natural color by using the converted L*a*b value. A matrix application unit(230) applies a matrix of a corresponding natural color to the input pixels discriminated to have the natural color in the natural color extractor(220). An output image generator(240) generates the image obtained through the matrix application unit(230) to have a new digital RGB value. The natural color extractor(220) calculates a hue value after converting the data inputted from the input image converter(210) into the L*a*b value in order to discriminate whether the calculated value belongs to a natural color.

PURPOSE: A system for selecting an experimental image of a display device and a method thereof are provided to select an experimental image having color areas which the display device is incapable of expressing, thereby affecting on algorithm development and judgement of the picture quality. CONSTITUTION: A display color gamut input unit receives information of RGB to L*a*b*(9*9*9) of a display device in a look-up table form. A display color gamut expanding unit expands RGB to L*a*b of (9*9*9) into RGB to L*a*b of (33*33*33) by using the three-dimensional interpolation. A display color gamut forming unit forms display color areas by forming 30*30*30 cells by dividing RGB to L*a*b of (33*33*33) by 30 equally. An experimental image converter converts an experimental image(RGB) into XYZ values for obtaining color gamut data, L*a*b. An experimental image verifying unit substitutes data of the experimental image for color gamut 30*30*30 cells in order for accumulating data not included in the cells and counting the number. According to the number of the accumulated pixels, the experimental image is selected.

PURPOSE: A chipset for generating color transform coefficient and a method for controlling the same, and an apparatus for improving the quality of a picture of an HDTV system using the same are provided to easily improve color representation characteristics of an HDTV. CONSTITUTION: A TV signal receiving unit(12) receives digital broadcasting image signals transmitted from a broadcasting station. A preprocessing unit(18) adjusts the size of an image to fit for an actual size of a display device, or executes basic image transform. A color transform coefficient generating chipset(20) generates a color transform coefficient for obtaining the optimum quality of the image of a digital TV and an HDTV. A postprocessing unit(22) transforms the image by using the color transform coefficient obtained from the color transform coefficient generating chipset and a color preference data coefficient obtained from a user. An RGB display unit(16) displays the transformed RGB image on a screen.
