Abstract:
Adhesives compositions and methods of preparing adhesive compositions are described. The methods generally comprise a) providing a syrup composition comprising i) a free-radically polymerizable solvent monomer; and ii) a solute (meth)acrylic copolymer; and b) radiation curing the syrup composition in the absence of an ionic photoacid generator. In one embodiment, the solute (meth)acrylic copolymer as provided or during curing comprises repeat units derived from at least one alkyl(meth)acrylate monomer, at least one ethylenically unsaturated monomer comprising an acid-functional group; and at least one (meth)acryloyl monomer comprising an epoxy-functional group; and the acid-functional groups crosslink with the epoxy-functional groups. In another embodiment, the solute (meth)acrylic copolymer comprising repeat units derived from at least one alkyl(meth)acrylate monomer and at least one ethylenically unsaturated monomer comprising an acid-functional group; and an epoxy resin, having on average greater than one polymerizable epoxy group per molecule, crosslinks the acid-functional groups.
Abstract:
Polymers, particularly those used in pressure-sensitive adhesives, are prepared from a mixture of structural isomers of a secondary alkyl (meth)acrylate monomer. The mixture is made by dehydrating a biobased C2-C22 alcohol with a first acid catalyst using a continuous process to form a mixture of olefins, and reacting (meth)acrylic acid with at least some of the mixture of olefins in the presence of a second acid catalyst. The adhesives are characterized by exhibiting an overall balance of adhesive and cohesive characteristics, and containing biobased material.
Abstract:
Pressure-sensitive adhesive compositions and articles containing the pressure-sensitive adhesives are provided. The pressure-sensitive adhesives contain an (meth)acrylic-based elastomeric material prepared an alkyl (meth)acrylate having an alkyl groups that is branched and that contains at least 14 carbon atoms.
Abstract:
Disclosed are copolymers which comprise: a) an isobutylene copolymer having grafted polymer groups, b) optionally a tackifier, and c) optionally a non-functionalized poly(isobutylene) polymer. The compositions are useful in adhesives and coatings.
Abstract:
Polymers, particularly those used in pressure-sensitive adhesives, are prepared from a mixture of structural isomers of a secondary alkyl (meth)acrylate monomer. The adhesives are characterized by exhibiting an overall balance of adhesive and cohesive characteristics and exceptional adhesion to low surface energy substrates.
Abstract:
Compounds are described that have both an aziridinyl group as well as a polymeric group. Methods of making these compounds are also described. The aziridinyl group of the compound can be reacted with an acidic group on a second compound resulting in the opening of the aziridinyl ring and the attachment of the polymeric group to the second compound.
