Abstract:
A valveless metering pump includes a simultaneously reciprocating and rotating piston (46). The pump head (10) includes radially spaced coplanar ports (92, 94, 96) for drawing and dispensing fluids as the piston (46) rotates sequentially past the ports. The reciprocating stroke of the piston (46) is controlled by adjusting the axis of the piston relative to the drive axis. The pump is designed so that the angular relationship of the ports also can be adjusted relative to the piston to balance the output at the sequential ports. The plurality of adjustments provide a valveless, positive displacement metering pump which is reliable and dependable for dispensing precise volumes of fluid through a plurality of outlet ports (94, 96).
Abstract:
The present invention provides an amine compound of formula (I) or a pharmaceutically acceptable salt thereof which is an antagonist for alpha-2 adrenoreceptors and which inhibits serotonin (5-hydroxytryptamine, 5-HT) uptake.
Abstract:
A pipette tip (30) for use in automated assay testing systems includes an annular, protruding seal rings (78, 80) on the interior wall of the pipette for engaging sealing surfaces (114, 116) on a probe (100) to provide a resilient seal. The pipette tip also includes a positive stop (66) for assuring proper positioning and alignment of the pipette tip on the probe for facilitating mounting of the pipette tip on the probe while minimizing variation in the loading and unloading forces required. Locator surfaces (32, 48) are provided on the exterior of the pipette tip for precisely aligning the pipette tip in the system rack for positioning the pipette tip relative to the probe.
Abstract:
Viscosity of red corpuscles is measured while suction of the red corpuscles is performed in a dispensing device of blood specimen. In the process of dispensing red corpuscles as specimen, the control unit (84) draws the piston (76) at first to produce a specified initial suction pressure. The pressure sensor (54) monitors the internal pressure of the air tube (44). The viscosity measuring unit (88) measures the length of time from the application of initial suction pressure to achievement of a predetermined pressure value beta and, referring to the table (88) and on the basis of the measured length of time, find a viscosity of the red corpuscles. The table (88) stores the correlation between a length of time and a viscosity which are proportional to each other.
Abstract:
Treatment of cotton plants or flowering ornamental plants with a formulation comprising an agent effective to inhibit 1-aminocyclopropane-1-carboxylic acid synthase activity accelerates the flowering of cotton plants and accelerates and extends flower longevity of flowering ornamental plants, particularly when such flowering plants are subjected to the stresses of the conditions of shipping. A preferred agent is L-trans-2-amino-4-(2-aminoethoxy)-3-butenoic acid (AVG) or a salt thereof.
Abstract:
Unit-of-use reagent compositions and methods for preparing such reagent compositions are disclosed. The reagent composition comprises one or more reagents which are necessary for a specific binding assay and which are incorporated in a porous material which is encapsulated in a carrier matrix. The unit-of-use reagent composition can be lyophilized to avoid the need for cold storage of the reagent composition.
Abstract:
The present invention includes novel rubella assays employing a Rubella virus capture reagent and a solid phase material containing a reaction site comprising a polymeric cation substance. A test sample suspected of containing Rubella antibody may be contacted with the capture reagent to form a capture reagent/analyte complex. The complex is then contacted to the positively charged solid phase to attract, attach, and immobilize the capture reagent/analyte complex.
Abstract:
An improved armboard (10) includes receptacles for receiving and holding a medical device (18) to be used in conjunction with the treatment of a patient. The patient's forearm is immobilized on the armboard, a sensor associated with the medical device is inserted into the patient, with a side channel of the armboard holding the medical device and a cable (36) extending from the sensor to a fiber optic connector received in a modular unit stored in a suitable cavity (16) and optical cable channel (26, 32) extending from opposite ends thereof are appropriately sized to prevent mis-insertion of the modular unit into the armboard. The armboard is formed from polystyrene foam, and thus is lightweight, disposable after a single use, and the cavities provided therein are appropriately sized to receive and retain the components of the medical device associated therewith.
