Abstract:
Microwave transmission and reception, and analysis thereof, are used to monitor the level of molten metal, paradigmatically steel, in a tundish receiving molten metal (steel) from a ladle or other vessel and passing it to the head of a continuous caster, while the steel in the tundish is covered with slag. The control factors may include level, weight or volume limits in the tundish derived from historical or real-time data, including data representing a predictable or developing vortex in the well feeding the continuous caster. The system is particularly useful in minimizing transition mix during change from one metal specification or grade to another.
Abstract:
An anchor device for holding hoses against retracting slidable movement comprising: a base member comprising a weighted anchor to be positioned approximate to a length of hose and a flexible strap affixed on one end to the base member and having a length configured to wrap around the hose so as to support the hose in a rigid position relative to the base member; and means for affixing the hose in a locked position.
Abstract:
A Finite Impulse Response (FIR) filter for suppressing ringing in tunable, or adjustable, members of MEMS devices is described. In embodiments of the invention, the FIR filter includes staggered proportional plus delay filters, or posicast filters. The FIR filter of the present invention is applicable to an adjustable mechanical member in a MEMS device which can be modeled as single mode second order system characterized by a resonance frequency &ohgr;0 and damping constant &zgr;
Abstract:
A system and method to improve the quality of reproduced images on a film to video transfer device by scanning extra lines to reduce vertical aliasing and performing vertical sample rate reduction to produce the correct number of video output lines High frequency noise is reduced as a result of the vertical sample rate reduction which produces a line filtering. More lines are scanned than normal and the distance between lines is reduced so that the larger number of lines covers the original film image area. This has the effect of increasing the sampling frequency in the vertical direction and therefore reducing aliasing. To provide the correct number of lines in the output of the film to video sample, rate reduction is performed. Sample rate reduction is performed by filtering multiple adjacent lines to remove any high frequency content that would be aliased at the lower rate. Lines are discarded in a predefined sequence that is a function of the fractional reduction rate.
Abstract:
A magnetic alignment system that can form part of a cochlear implant system. The magnetic alignment system prevents substantial movement of a magnet of an implanted component during an MRI procedure or allows for easy removal of the magnet to facilitate the MRI procedure.
