Abstract:
Methods and systems for communicating information between computer networks in which the information to be communicated is required at one location (e.g. for processing) but only available at another location. The information may be absent deliberately (for privacy reasons) or may simply be unavailable as an artefact of the computer network(s) involved. The required information, such as the internal client IP address, is inserted into the outgoing network communication in a manner that does not to materially affect the normal transit or utility of the network communication (e.g. as custom headers). The information is preferably inserted in an encrypted form, so that it may pass over a public network and be invulnerable to unauthorised scrutiny.
Abstract:
A method of logging a rod-pumped well without removing the production string of tubing (30) is disclosed. The logging is accomplished with a soft-coated cable (100) or a soft-faced sleeve (130) which prevents abrasion or damage to a rod-pump barrel as a logging device or sonde (110) which is lowered into the production string of the rod-pumped well after removal of the sucker rods and the pump assembly without the need to remove the production string. The soft-coated cable or soft-faced sleeve allows logging without damage to the interior surface of the production tubing thereby eliminating scratching or grooving normally associated with previous wireline logging operations.
Abstract:
Systems and methods are disclosed for facilitating synchronous communications over an asynchronous communications link. Specifically, embodiments of the claimed invention provide systems and methods for transmitting high-speed signals while maintaining lock-step determinism using remote clock phase adjustments. Embodiments of the claimed invention also provide systems and methods for maintaining determinism through the use of synchronized time slice counters within the various components.
Abstract:
Dosage forms and methods of use are disclosed for: a) the simultaneous administration of tetrahydrobiopterin (BH4) or a derivative, homolog or precursor thereof and lipoic acid (LA), or dihydrolipoic acid (DHLA), or a derivative, homolog or salt thereof or, b) the administration of a conjugate consisting of tetrahydrobiopterin bis-lipoate (TBL). The invention is useful for the amelioration of diabetes mellitus types 1 and 2 (including impaired glucose tolerance, pre-diabetes, insulin resistance, metabolic syndrome X and as an adjunct to oral antidiabetic agents and/or insulin), diabetic and non-diabetic microvascular diseases (including nephropathy, neuropathy and retinopathy), diabetic and non-diabetic macrovascular diseases (including heart attack, stroke, peripheral vascular disease and ischemia-reperfusion injury), hypertension, vasoconstriction, obesity, dyslipedemia, and neurodegenerative disorders (including Parkinson's disease, mild cognitive impairment, senile dementia, Alzheimer's disease, hearing loss and chronic glaucomas). A novel method for the preparation of TBL is also disclosed.
Abstract:
A system of analyzing engine performance to assist in the improved control of a dual fuel engine includes measuring devices for measuring parameters including engine load, RPM, fuel injected, air inlet temperature, exhaust temperature, oxygen or carbon dioxide levels in the exhaust gases, at discrete time intervals. An electronic storage device stores the data collected by the measuring devices at each of the discrete time intervals, and analysis apparatus analyzes the stored data to establish a data table for each parameter against each measured engine load and RPM point. Imaging software is provided for presenting the data sets for each parameter as a three dimensional surface plotted against load and RPM.
Abstract:
A system and method enables a storage system to support multiple volume type simultaneously. A volume type field is contained within a file system information block that permits the storage system to determine the type of volume of a particular volume associated therewith. The storage operating system may then interpret various on-disk data structures in accordance with the appropriate volume type.
Abstract:
The invention is based, in part, on the discovery of a novel cell-based immunotherapy that can recapitulate neutrophil functions in neutropenic individuals afflicted with a microbial infection. The therapeutic compositions and methods of the invention are broadly applicable to treat any infection in a neutropenic individual, including infections caused by bacteria, fungi, protozoa, and viruses. The invention compositions of activated, irradiated HL-60 cells represent a practical, rapid cell-based immunotherapy for refractory infections.
Abstract:
The invention relates to methods and apparatus for determining a downhole parameter in an underbalanced drilling environment which include: selectively activating a first fluid flowing from the formation through a wellbore while under balanced drilled; detecting the activated first fluid; and determining a depth at which said fluid enters the wellbore.
Abstract:
This invention is directed to multifunctional, context-activated protides that have two or more effectors with individually distinct biological functions and one or more corresponding activator sites that can each initiate or amplify the biological function of one or more effectors upon context-activation. The context-activated protides of the invention are useful in the diagnosis, prophylaxis, and therapy of a broad range of pathological conditions.
Abstract:
The invention is a sealing system, such as a packer, that is used in a wellbore to seal against an exterior surface, such as a casing or open wellbore. The sealing system includes a swellable material that swells from an unexpanded state to an expanded state thereby creating a seal when the swellable material comes into contact with a triggering fluid.
