Abstract: A decoding method and apparatus are provided. A first candidate having a first motion vector that has been used to decode a first block, a first prediction direction that corresponds to the first motion vector, and a first reference picture index that identifies a first reference picture is derived. A second candidate having a second motion vector that has been used to decode a second block, a second prediction direction that corresponds to the second motion vector, and a second reference picture index that identifies a second reference picture is derived. When a total number of candidates is less than a maximum number, a third candidate is derived by combining the first motion vector and the first reference picture index for the first prediction direction of the first candidate and the second motion vector and the second reference picture index for the second prediction direction of the second candidate.

Abstract: The image coding method includes: determining a context for a current block to be processed, from among a plurality of contexts; and performing arithmetic coding on the control parameter for the current block to generate a bitstream corresponding to the current block, wherein in the determining: the context is determined under a condition that control parameters of neighboring blocks of the current block are used, when the signal type is a first type, the neighboring blocks being a left block and an upper block of the current block; and the context is determined under a condition that the control parameter of the upper block is not used, when the signal type is a second type, and the second type is one of “mvd_l0” and “mvd_l1”.

Abstract: An encoding apparatus of encoding units included in a picture is provided. The encoding apparatus generates a first flag indicating whether a removal time of encoded data from a buffer by a hypothetical decoder is set per unit. When the removal time is set per unit, a second flag is generated which indicates whether an interval between removal times of the units is constant. When the second flag indicates that the interval is constant, common-interval information is generated which is distinct from the second flag and indicates a constant time interval between the removal times of the units. A bitstream including the encoded data, the first flag, the second flag, and the common-interval information is generated, with the common-interval information being included in control information of the bitstream.

Abstract: An image coding method for improving coding efficiency by using more appropriate probability information is provided. The image coding method includes: a first coding step of coding a first set of blocks included in a first region sequentially based on first probability information; and a second coding step of coding a second set of blocks included in a second region sequentially based on second probability information. In the first coding step , the first probability information is updated depending on data of a target block to be coded, after coding the target block and before coding a next target block. In the second coding step, the second probability information is updated depending on the first probability information updated in the first coding step, before coding the first target block.

Abstract: A moving picture coding method includes: coding a coding target block using a motion vector; generating motion vector predictors; and coding the motion vector using one of the motion vector predictors generated in the generating of the motion vector predictors. In the generating of the motion vector predictors, a replacement vector which replaces a temporal motion vector predictor is added to the motion vector predictors when it is impossible to obtain the temporal motion vector predictor from a block which is included in a coded picture different from the coding target picture and corresponds to the coding target block.

Abstract: The present invention relates to a method for encoding and decoding an image signal and to corresponding apparatuses therefor. In particular, during the encoding and/or decoding of an image signal filtering with at least two filters is performed. The sequence of the filter application and possibly the filters are selected and the filtering is applied in the selected filtering order and with the selected filters. The determination of the sequence of applying the filters may be performed either separately in the same way at the encoder and at the decoder, or, it may be determined at the encoder and signaled to the decoder.
