    Abstract: An image decoding method according to one embodiment of the present invention comprises: a context control step (S204) in which a context to be used for a block to be processed is determined from a plurality of contexts; and an arithmetic decoding step (S210) in which the determined context is used to arithmetically decode a bit string corresponding to the block to be processed. In the context control step (S204), if the signal classification of a control parameter is a first type, the context is selected using a condition whereby the control parameters of the left-side adjacent block and upper adjacent block of the block to be processed are employed (S206), and if the signal classification of the control parameter is a second type, the context is determined using a condition whereby the control parameter of the upper block is not employed (S207). The second type is "no_residual_data_flag".

    Abstract: An image encoding method comprising: a binarization step (S401) for generating a first binarized signal and a second binarized signal, respectively, by binarizing a first component and a second component included in the LAST position information; arithmetic encoding steps for encoding a first partial signal, which is a part of the first binarized signal, and a second partial signal, which is a part of the second binarized signal, by means of first arithmetic encoding (S402, S405) and for encoding a third partial signal, which is a different part of the first binarized signal, and a fourth partial signal, which is a different part of the second binarized signal, by means of second arithmetic encoding (S409, S411); and a sequencing step (S412) for sequencing the encoded first through fourth partial signals within the bit stream. In the sequencing step (S412), either (i) the encoded second partial signal is arranged so as to be succedent to the encoded first partial signal, or (ii) the encoded fourth partial signal is arranged so as to be succedent to the encoded third partial signal.
