Abstract:
An injection jet includes a body having a first and a second passage disposed therein for channeling a fluid to a working element. The first passage remains fluidly separated from the second passage. A system includes the injection jet along with a main reservoir and an emergency reservoir. The first passage is in fluid communication with the main reservoir, while the second passage is in fluid communication with the emergency reservoir. The system operates in a standard mode and an emergency mode. Both the first passage and the second passage are configured for jointly supplying fluid to the working element during standard mode. The second passage is configured for independently supplying fluid to the working element during emergency mode.

The feed injector system includes a first injector port assembly including a plurality of annular channels substantially concentric about a longitudinal axis that define corresponding fluid flow paths that direct a flow of fluid substantially axially therethrough from a respective source to a reaction zone and a second injector port assembly including a flow port surrounded by a plurality of auxiliary ports spaced about a circumference of the flow port, the plurality of auxiliary ports communicatively coupled to a toroidal passage configured to receive a flow of fluid and channel the flow of fluid to the auxiliary ports such that the flow of fluid is discharged from the auxiliary ports having an axial flow component, a radially inward flow component, and a circumferential flow component.
Abstract:
A fire suppression system is disclosed. The system includes a source of pressurized gas and a source of pressurized liquid. At least one emitter is in fluid communication with the liquid and gas sources. The emitter is used to establish a gas stream, atomize and entrain the liquid into the gas stream and discharge the resulting liquid-gas stream onto the fire. A method of operating the system is also disclosed. The method includes establishing a gas stream having first and second shock fronts using the emitter, atomizing and entraining the liquid with the gas at one of the two shock fronts to form a liquid-gas stream, and discharging the stream onto the fire. The method also includes creating a plurality of shock diamonds in the liquid-gas stream discharged from the emitter.

Abstract:
An apparatus is described for micron and submicron particles formation of a substance using the GAS process, comprising a particles formation vessel (22) and means for introducing a solution of the substance and a supercritical fluid into the particles formation vessel (22), wherein said means comprise a nozzle (27) having a central orifice (39) serving to carry a flow of solution, and a plurality of separate outer orifices (41) serving to carry a flow of pure supercritical fluid or a flow of supercritical fluid mixed with a modifier, such that the solvent is extracted from the solution by the supercritical fluid and precipitation of micron and submicron particles occurs. Also a process is described, carried out with such an apparatus.

Abstract:
Multi-component liquid spray system including a shim having a first array of first passages and a second array of second passages are described. When the shim is positioned between the first and second die portions of a housing, a first array of first liquid conduits and a second array of second liquid conduits are formed. The first array of first liquid conduits and second array of second liquid conduits are aligned such that at least one of the second liquid conduits is interspersed between successive first liquid conduits. Methods of making such spray systems and methods of using them to produce both multi-component sprays and coated articles are also described.
Abstract:
In the method for interspersing a gas flow with liquid droplets, the liquid droplets are injected in a liquid injection plane into the gas flow, characterised in that an auxiliary gas is simultaneously injected with the liquid droplets into the gas flow. The injection speed of the auxiliary gas is larger than the injection speed of the liquid droplets so that the injected auxiliary gas stabilises the injected liquid droplets with respect to trajectory and size, partly shields them from the gas flow and/or entrains them into the gas flow. By way of this one achieves an improved control of the spatial distribution of the liquid droplets and their size distribution. The liquid droplets penetrate the gas flow more efficiently than without an auxiliary gas. A preferred use is the online wet-cleaning of a gas turbine compressor.
Abstract:
In existing vaporizers the medication passes through unsterilized passages which preclude heir use to administer sterile medications. The present invention therefore provides a device for dispensing a vaporized spray of sterile medicated liquid. It uses a combination atomizing and pressure release valve in which there is a flexible membrane with an aperture, and a plug extending upwardly through the aperture and having a surface against which the membrane is biassed in the closed position, the membrane lifting off the surface of the plug in the open position to thereby open the aperture.
