The invention relates to a multi-strand steel cord comprising J central strands and K outer strands positioned around the J central strands, with J ≥1 and K ≥3. The J central strands comprise a core of L central filaments and at least a first layer of M filaments positioned around said core of L central filaments, with 1 ≤ L ≤ and 4≤ M ≤ 20. The K outer strands comprise a core of P central filaments and at least one layer of Q filaments positioned around said core of P central filaments, with 1 ≤ P≤ 5and 4≤ Q≤ 20. The circumferential surface of the core of L central filaments of the J central strands is coated with polymer material whereas the circumferential surface of the J central strands is free or substantially free of polymer material. Furthermore the K outer strands are free or substantially free of polymer material. The invention further relates to a method of manufacturing such multi-strand steel cord.

The present invention relates to a single wire steel cord for reinforcing rubber of a pneumatic tire having improved strength and adhesion to rubber and, more particularly, to a single wire steel cord which includes waveform regions having at least one waveform and non-waveform regions. The single wire steel cord has a high strength characteristic. Accordingly, the amount of steel cord is significantly reduced during manufacturing of a tire. As a result, the weight of the tire is reduced and manufacturing cost is lowered due to a simplified manufacturing process.

A method of manufacturing the metal cord comprises shaping metal filaments in a two-dimensional zigzag waveform, and twisting the shaped metal filaments together, wherein the number of the filaments is in a range of from 8 to 12, the metal filaments have the same diameter (d) of from 0.15 to 0.30 mm, the shaped metal filaments have the same zigzag waveforms, the zigzag waveform of each said shaped metal filament has constant wave lengths (P) and constant wave heights (h) wherein the ratio (P/d) is in the range of 100/3 to 700/3, and the ratio (h/d) is in the range of 5/3 to 80/3.
