The invention relates to a method of detecting the presence of an analyte associated with a nanoparticle layer formed at a liquid-liquid interface. The method comprises removing a portion of one of the liquid phases; and detecting the presence of the analyte by Raman spectroscopy, Infra Red spectroscopy and/or fluorescence spectroscopy. The invention further relates to a kit for use in the method, comprising a sample vessel for receiving in use, a first and second liquid phase; wherein said phases are immiscible and wherein one or both of the first or the second liquid phase comprise nanoparticles, and instructions to allow analysis of an analyte in a sample according to the claimed method
Abstract:
The present disclosure pertains to a system for separating plasma and/or serum from blood. The system is configured to separate plasma and/or serum from between about 20 and about 50µl of blood. Separating plasma and/or serum from that amount of blood may be useful during a bilirubin level estimation in newborn babies. The system alleviates the need to centrifuge a sample of blood to separate the blood plasma and/or serum. The system is configured such that the separated serum is held by the system during an optical analysis to estimate bilirubin levels, thus eliminating the need to transfer the serum sample to a cuvette for analysis. In some embodiments, the system comprises a cartridge body, a filter, a serum pathway, an analysis port, a negative pressure source, a suction connector port, and/or other components.

Disclosed is a stage system and metrology apparatus comprising at least one such stage system. The stage system comprises a stage carrier for holding an object and a stage carrier positioning actuator for displacing the stage carrier. The stage system also comprises a balance mass to counteract a displacement of the stage carrier, and a balance mass positioning actuator for displacing the balance mass. A cable arrangement is connected to the stage carrier for the supply of at least power to said stage carrier. The stage system is operable to apply a compensatory feed-forward force to the balance mass which compensates for a cable arrangement force exerted by the cable arrangement.

An embodiment of the present invention provides an optical probe, comprising: a first sleeve in which a lens is contained, the first sleeve having a light transmission aperture from which a exciting light enters the first sleeve; a second sleeve movably engaged with the first sleeve and having a detection window from which the exciting light having passed through the first sleeve and focused by the lens exits the optical probe, the second sleeve being capable of moving with respect to the first sleeve from a first detection position to a second detection position or from the second detection position to the first detection position; and a positioning member configured to position the second sleeve at the first detection position or the second detection position with respect to the first sleeve.
