The preference based data collection and discounting system and methods herein collect consumer product preferences and track the buying habits of a consumer and reward consumers through discounts. The buying habits may be interrogated by a database of one or more algorithms, which will result in a collated database about consumer buying habits. This metadata may be used by vendors to make marketing assumptions that will influence a consumers future purchase decisions. Consumers directly input and update their preferences as well.

Disclosed are systems and methods for managing transactions in which an order is specified online and payment is received at a point of sale (POS). Methods are disclosed for managing payment for such transactions at a POS, including transactions involving payment for both in-store purchases and online orders. Methods are also disclosed for managing inventory and price changes for such transactions where payment can occur at any time in a pay period following order creation. Also disclosed are methods for processing refunds for online orders for which payment was made at a POS. Finally, methods for preventing fraud and abuse as well as restricting the availability of this payment method for certain items are disclosed.

A method, procedure and operational function of the business for inhibiting internal theft of items without inventory identifiers are provided. In one aspect, the method comprises receiving an item for sale at a POS terminal, wherein the item is missing an inventory identifier. After the item is received, a determination is made as to whether a description of the item is stored in an inventory system. If the item is not stored in the inventory system, the sale of the item is inhibited. Thereafter, the entry of identifying information in the POS terminal is requested such that the identifying information identifies the item such that the description of the item can be stored in the inventory system.

A system and method for providing responses to pricing inquiries that bypasses the trading desk is disclosed that includes a CPS database configured to receive and store pricing data from at least one data source and a CPS console configured to receive a pricing inquiry, estimate a price for the issue, and automatically generate and distribute the estimated price. A Pricing Analyst (PA) manages the receipt and processing of the pricing inquiry and can modify the estimation parameters through the CPS console. Processing of the inquiry by the CPS console relieves traders at the trading desk of the job of responding to pricing inquiries during the trading day.

The distribution method includes transmitting upon request selected said data to addressees, each such transmission being formatted for acceptance by each respective addressee.

A method of estimating project costs is disclosed. Geometric information is extracted from a design plan for the project and a cost estimate for the project is automatically generated using the geometric information extracted from the design plan and a computerized cost data store that contains cost estimates for the extracted geometric information. Either during the project, or after the project has been completed, actual cost data relating to the geometric information is electronically received and this actual cost data is used to update the computerized cost data store.
