Abstract:
A portable document scanner that records both image and voice information, comprises a digital camera module configured to capture document images, and a laser frame generator configured to project a visible beam of light forming a laser frame to indicate the corresponding field of view of the optical lens for framing a document to be captured. A light source generated by a laser diode is shaped by passing through a collimating optical element and a diffractive optical element which is configured to produce a visible laser frame for framing a document to be captured. The captured data is then stored in an internal memory of the scanner. A data connector is permanently attached to the scanner body, which is used to connect the scanner directly into a receptacle on an external device for accessing data.
Abstract:
A scanning apparatus to indicate a scanning progress status includes a main body having a platen on which a document is set, a scanning module to move inside the main body and to scan the document, and an indicating light disposed integrally with the scanning module to indicate a current location of the scanning module.
Abstract:
A document camera comprises a base; a camera head; a camera positioned in the camera head for capturing images of documents and other objects; a flexible neck connecting the camera head to the base and permitting the camera head to be moved relative to the base; a sensor for sensing a position or orientation of the camera head relative to the base; and a control device responsive to the sensor for selecting an operating parameter of the document camera based on the position or orientation of the camera head.
Abstract:
An optical text scanning device compatible with a small handheld computer such as a personal digital assistant (PDA). The scanning device allows for a clear view of the text that is scanned simultaneous to the scanning process so that the operator can continuously align the device to the text. The scanned images of the text are converted in real-time to standard byte or word characters for subsequent display on the computer's viewing screen. The operator can quickly verify the accuracy of the conversion by comparing the displayed character with the actual character of text on the surface that is being scanned. Scanned text characters are stored in standard digital text files for ease of manipulation.

Abstract:
An image acquiring device with positioning assisting functionality is for acquiring an image of an object to be captured, and includes a positioning assisting unit and an image acquiring unit. The positioning assisting unit emits light toward a planar surface. The light forms at least one positioning mark on the planar surface. The image acquiring unit is for acquiring an image of an image acquiring region associated with the positioning mark.
Abstract:
An illuminated media position indicator for an imaging device comprises a scanner having a scanner top cover including an inner edge portion which defines an opening for a scanning platen disposed adjacent the opening. The inner edge portion defines at least one corner corresponding to a scan origin. An illuminated registration corner is positioned in said at least one corner corresponding to the scan origin and comprises at least one LED in optical communication with the illuminated registration corner. The illuminated registration corner communicates light from the at least one LED throughout the illuminated registration corner using substantially total internal reflection to indicate media position and orientation at said scan origin.

Abstract:
A framing aid for a handheld document capture device such as a digital camera, comprising two pattern generators (10,20) generating convergent patterns (14, 24) that are in register on a target object plane. Triangulation between the two pattern generators (10,20) and using superimposed or complementary patterns (14,24) ensures that the hand held device (1) is correctly arranged at a predetermined range and orientation above a document to be captured, such that the document is accurately framed within the field of view of the capture device (1).
Abstract:
A system and method of obtaining a reconstructed digital image of an image that is projected, displayed, or printed on a surface by capturing a single digital image of the surface is described. According to the system and method, at least three illumination marks are projected onto the surface. The illumination marks have a particular detectable characteristic. An image captures a single image of the surface including the illumination marks to obtain captured image data. The location and the pixel values corresponding to the illumination marks are detected dependent on the particular characteristic of the illumination mark pixels in the captured image data. The locations of the illumination marks are then used to correct for distortion of the image and surface in the captured image data to generate an undistorted digital image of the image on the surface. The illumination mark pixel values are replaced within undistorted digital image with estimated pixel values that are determined using neighboring non-illumination mark pixel values.
