Abstract:
PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an arrangement for dynamically diverting communications having characteristics incompatible with a communication device to other device. SOLUTION: A monitoring device monitors headers of packets on a communications session with a primary communications device, and when it detects packets of a medium that is incompatible with the primary device, it causes those packets to be diverted to a secondary device that is associated with the primary device and that is compatible with that medium. During set-up of the communications session, the monitoring device replaces or supplements the handshake of the primary device, thereby providing to the network a single handshake that identifies the media supported by the combination of the primary and secondary devices. Abstract:
PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To judge presence/non-presence of an echo in a voice communication signal from the results obtained by monitoring the outgoing portion of the voice communication signal, also monitoring the incoming portion of the voice communication signal, further matching the outgoing signal and the incoming signal, and implementing a correlative procedure in a communication system under operation. SOLUTION: In echo detection and monitoring systems, the outgoing and incoming voice channels of a voice communication are monitored. The outgoing and incoming signals are compared in timing, and measures are then taken to determine whether echo is in the signal or not. In accordance with an embodiment of the present invention, the outgoing signal is fed through an adaptive filter. COPYRIGHT: (C)2005,JPO&NCIPI
Abstract:
PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a method that easily can use a remote distance communica tion unit (TDDs) for people who are hard of hearing (audibly handicapped people). SOLUTION: A modular telephone handset 100 comprises and earpiece (102), a mouthpiece 104, and a handle 106 detachably attached to one end to the earpiece and at the other end to the mouthpiece. Attachment and detachment is effected by snap or twist joints 108, 110. This allows one of the earpiece and the mouthpiece when detached to be used by a human user for listening or talking on a telephone call while simultaneously allowing the other of the earpiece and the mouth piece to be used for receiving or transmitting data with an acoustic coupler 202 of a TDD device 200, thereby facilitating mixed- mode TDD-and-voice communication at any telephone that is equipped with the modular handset.
Abstract:
Methods, systems and computer readable media for quality of service aware hybrid multicast networks are described. A method can include receiving a request for content from a first receiver and initiating a quality of service aware hybrid tree construction by sending a multicast service level specification message to a first overlay tree manager. The method can also include dividing the tree at the overlay tree manager and communicating with other overlay tree managers in the network. The method can further include computing, at each overlay tree manager, a shortest path tree using a constrained algorithm and sending, from each overlay tree manager, a message to each IP manager in the network requesting that the IP managers construct an IP multicast tree and install the tree on one or more corresponding routers. The method can also include enforcing multicast routes and quality of service on the one or more routers.
Abstract:
Methods and systems provided herein provide a user device that is capable of offering its user an extraordinary experience while staying at a hospitality vendor. In particular, the user is allowed to interact with the user device and have access to a number of applications either stored on the user device or made accessible to the user device. Moreover, the applications made available to the user may be controlled, based on the device's location, the user's presence information, or both, to heighten the user experience and/or ensure compliance with applicable regulations.

Abstract:
A system and method create an interconnection among users of different social networks. Each user can provide information about the social networks they use (e.g., username, passwords, etc.). An application may register with the social network and can inter- dispose the application between the user and the social network. Then, the system can interconnect the users into a "virtual private network" (VPN) where communications between the users and the social networks can be replicated to other social networks for the other users. As such, different users using different social networks can communicate.
Abstract:
Methods and systems provided herein allow a communication session to be established on an optimal communication network and subsequently transferred to alternative networks if conditions dictate that such a change is necessary or desirable. The types of conditions which may be considered when identifying the optimal communication network or the alternative network include conditions related to the operation of a user device, communication profiles of the user, resources available on other networks, and the like.
Abstract:
Mechanisms are provided herein which accommodate the sharing of a user device among multiple users. In particular, when multiple users are detected as sharing a user device, the user interface of the user device can be automatically altered to facilitate the sharing of the user device. Data associated with each sharing user may also be presented according to each user's presentation preferences and to accommodate presentation needs of each user.
Abstract:
A visual and/or audible beacon is provided by an access device or an external device to assist emergency response personnel to locate the person that initiated the emergency call. A communication server that handled the emergency call can cause lights on the access device to blink in a specified pattern, so that emergency personnel may more easily locate the access device that was used to place the emergency call. The communication server can also cause the access device to output a series of audible tones that may be used to locate the access device that was used to place the emergency call. Emergency response personnel may control the audible/visual beacon through the communication server to cause the beacon to be selectively activated or deactivated as necessary. Optionally the beacon may be turned off from the access device as well.
