Abstract:
A crosslinkable composition of a polymeric thermoplastic and/or elastomeric material which is susceptible to scorching when processed at elevated temperatures, prior to crosslinking, in the presence of a free radical initiator, is protected against such scorching by the incorporation therein of a mixture of at least one hydroquinone compound and a sulfur accelerator. This mixture may also contain at least one monomeric allylic, methacrylic, acrylic or diene type coagent. The mixture exhibits a synergistic effect resulting in improved scorch protection for peroxide cured systems when compared with the protection afforded by the components singly.
Abstract:
Partial or total separation of a mixture of vinylidene chloride and 1,1-dichloro-1-fluoroethane by liquid-liquid extraction with solvents having a Hansen solubility parameter of about 30.8-32.0, such as ethanolamine.
Abstract:
Paint stripper formulations containing a solvent system comprised of an ester such as benzyl formate and methods for using the same to strip paint.
Abstract:
New and novel carboxylic acid hydrazides bearing a 2,2,6,6-tetra-alkyl-4-piperidine ring and new and novel polymeric compositions stabilized therewith are provided. The novel compounds which contain a light stabilizing group and a reactive hydrazide functionality in the same molecule are prepared by hydrazinolysis of the ester group of an intermediate carboxylic acid ester which contains the 2,2,6,6-tetralkylpiperidine moiety.
Abstract:
A process and apparatus for regenerating a plating bath comprising trivalent chromium cations (a trivalent chromium bath). The bath can be continuously, or more preferably, periodically with an ion exchange resin, preferably a cation exchange resin. A useful apparatus comprises a plating tank containing a trivalent chromium plating bath in communication with an ion exchange bed continuing ion exchange resin.
Abstract:
Phenolic N-(amido)imides are provided which are useful as antioxidant stabilizers for organic materials, including a large variety of synthetic polymers, typically subject to thermooxidative degradation. The antioxidant effectiveness of the phenolic N-(amido)imide stabilizers is enhanced by the deactivating potential of the amido-imide moiety towards metals or metal ions that frequently contaminate polymer compositions and serve to catalyze thermal degradation.
Abstract:
The present invention is a composition comprising crosslinked polyolefin resins and an amount of organic sulfide antioxidants sufficient to stabilize the resin against thermal or oxidative degradation, wherein the organic sulfide antioxidant is represented by Formula I, II or III
wherein m, n, R, R 1 , R 2 , R 3 , R S , R 6 , R 7 and R 8 are as set forth in the Summary of the Invention.
Abstract:
Apparatus for the coating of glass containers (212) has a series of vertical slots (202) for applying coating chemicals to a hot glass jar with a minimal neck and shoulder area. An opposing horizontal slot (210) exhausts spent coating material and reactants in a laminar flow. A center section (230) provides a current of gas without chemicals parallel to the coating stream, and flowing with low velocity relative to the coating stream, but with high velocity relative to the extraneous turbulent and convection currents.
