    Abstract: Polybutadiene is made by polymerizing butadiene in the presence of a hydrocarbon diluent and an organometallic catalyst system containing iodine in the free or combined state and terminating the reaction by addition of a material selected from oxirane compounds and organic anhydrides. The Specification contains an extensive list of catalysts of the Ziegler-type. The exemplified catalyst is formed from triisobutylaluminium, iodine and titanium tetrachloride. The oxirane compound may be ethylene oxide, propylene oxide, glycidaldehyde, epoxidized polybutadiene, epoxidized fatty acid or fatty esters e.g. vegetable oils. Specified anhydrides are acetic stearic, succinic, benzoic, phthalic, pyromellitic, and polymerization products of styrene and maleic anhydride. After the oxirane or anhydride short-stopping agent has been added, the polymer is recovered by conventional techniques such as alcohol coagulation, or steam stripping. The polybutadiene, mainly cis, can be vulcanized by known methods.

    Abstract: The heat exchanger has parallel tubes forming a tube bundle having a longitudinal axis. The tubes are arranged in parallel tube rows with regular straight lanes being defined through the tube bundle transverse to the direction of the tube rows. Lanes are defined through the tube bundle at an angle with respect to the direction of the tube rows and a second plurality of lanes being defined through the tube bundle at an angle with respect to the direction of the tube rows. A third group of lanes are defined through the tube bundle at an angle with respect to the direction of the tube rows. Fourth lanes are defined through the tube bundle at an angle with respect to the direction of the tube rows. A first band embraces an outer tube limit of the tube bundle. Rods are attached to the first band and extend through the first lanes.

    Abstract: An additive comprising a metal naphthenate selected from the group consisting of cobalt naphthenate and iron naphthenate is mixed with a hydrocarbon-containing feed stream. The hydrocarbon-containing feed stream containing the additive is then contacted in a hydrofining process with a catalyst composition comprising a support selected from the group consisting of alumina, silica and silica-alumina and a promoter comprising at least one metal selected from Group VIB, Group VIIB and Group VIII of the Periodic Table. The introduction of the inventive additive may be commenced when the catalyst is new, partially deactivated or spent with a beneficial result occuring in each case.

    Abstract: This invention comprises improvements to processes for the catalytic cracking of hydrocarbon feedstocks. One such improvement to catalytic cracking processes provides compositions comprising metals passivating agents having an increased degree of stability. These compositions comprise aqueous suspensions of antimony by vinyl copolymers, aqueous suspensions of antimony oxide by diesters of phosphoric acid, or aqueous suspensions of antimony oxide by cellulose derivatives. Another improvement to catalytic cracking processes provides a process for reducing the viscosity of liquid suspensions of metals passivating agents without substantially reducing the stability of the liquid suspension by the utilization of at least two different particle ranges of metals passivating agents. A further improvement to catalytic cracking processes provides an efficient utilization of metals passivating agents by introducing the selected agent into the catalyst regeneration cycle of a catalytic cracking unit.
