    Abstract: An automatic gain control provides for enhanced acquisition and tracking of wireless signals. The wireless signals may include signals using electrostatic fields, magnetic fields, or electromagnetic fields. In an embodiment, wireless signals are provided as radio frequency signals. The automatic gain control design is intended to quickly acquire new incoming information in a wireless signal. A control unit regulates the automatic gain control to manage the acquisition and gain of the wireless signal based on a transmission protocol. The automatic gain control adjusts the gain for the wireless signal to a minimal level required for detection for a preprogrammed amount of time, at the same time minimizing unwanted background noise from interfering with the data packet. When the communication session is concluded, the automatic gain control can be released allowing increased sensitivity in preparation of the next transmission.

    Abstract: An embodiment of a hearing assistance apparatus for performing a Real Ear Measurement (REM), comprises a hearing assistance device housing, a microphone within the housing, an earhook connected to the housing, and a flexible tube. The house has a first opening for guiding sound into the housing to the microphone. The housing and the connected earhook form an interface, where the earhook has a shape to provide a slot near the interface of the housing and the earhook. The tube guides sound, and has a first end and a second end. The first end of the flexible tube and the slot of the earhook cooperate to retain the first end of the flexible tube in the slot of the earhook and flush with the housing to provide a sound-tight connection with the first opening.

    Abstract: Disclosed herein, among other things, is an apparatus for connection to a hearing assistance device having a DAI compatible interface compatible with direct audio input (DAI) signals. According to an embodiment, the apparatus includes a connector to connect to the DAI-compatible interface. The connector includes audio and ground connections compatible with the DAI-compatible interface. The connector further includes a power connection adapted to provide power to the hearing assistance device. The apparatus also includes a power source electrically connected to the connector. The power source is adapted to charge one or more energy storing devices, such as batteries, within the hearing assistance device, according to various embodiments. In an embodiment, the power source is adapted to supplement power provided to the hearing assistance device by the one or more energy storing devices within the device.

    Abstract: Systems and methods are provided to wirelessly communicate with a wireless communication protocol. One aspect of the present subject matter relates to a method performed by a hearing instrument for a user. According to various embodiments, local sound(3232) is converted into a processed acoustic signal (3233) for the user of the hearing instrument, and wireless communications within a wireless network that includes the hearing instrument is controlled using a wireless communications protocol. The wireless communications protoc ol includes a transmission protocol module(3226), a link protocol module(3227), an extended protocol module(3228), a data protocol module(3229), and an audi o protocol module(3230). The transmission protocol module is adapted to contro l transceiver operations to provide half duplex communication over a single wireless communication channel, and the link protocol module is adapted to implement a packet transmission process to account for frame collisions on t he channel.
