PURPOSE: Provided is a method for producing a red phosphor based on gadolinium oxide which shows excellent luminous brightness in low-speed electronic tube and stable physical property even under high vacuum, and which is suitable for field emission display(FED) excellent in color purity. CONSTITUTION: The method comprises the steps of (i) weighing europium oxide(Eu2O3) as activating agent into gadolinium oxide(Gd2O3) phosphor matrix in a predetermined ratio according to desired composition; (ii) mixing the compounds in the presence of acetone solvent using ball milling or mortar mixer, introducing the mixture into oven and drying the mixture at 100-150 deg.C; and (iii) heat treating the dried mixture at 800-1500 deg.C using electric furnace in high purity alumina boat under reduction atmosphere using 2-30% hydrogen containing mixed gas.
