Abstract: Accessory unit 2200 (for example a cover for smart phones) comprises a body and a magnetic assembly pivotally connected to the body and arranged to attach the accessory to a first part of a host unit with a peak magnetic force, the assembly comprises: a first and a second plurality of adjacent magnetic elements (2228 Fig. 28D) arranged in a first and second relative size order along a first line and according to a first and second polarity pattern, respectively. First and second orders and patterns can be complementary. The first and second pluralities of magnetic elements have a magnetic shunt. The assembly comprises end lungs 2206 and 2208 and a rigid rod 2212 that pivot about a first 2216 and second 2218 line. The accessory comprises a segmented flap 2202, made of formed leather or polyurethane, wherein an outermost portion includes a magnetic element to attach the portion to a second part of the host unit, such as a display device. A sensor detects when the segmented flap portion is on top of the second part causing an alteration of the operating state of the host unit. The magnetic assembly releasably attaches two objects without fasteners and external intervention.
