Abstract: A system for operating medical devices is provided. The system may b e used to program a medical device such as an infusion pump (120). The system may be implemented in a variety of ways including as a computer system. The system may include a first computer (104) at a pharmacy and a second compute r (118) at a treatment location. The system sends operating parameters to the medical device after providing various checks to assure that the correct medication (124) is being administered to the correct patient. The system ma y also include features for confirming the operating parameters are still vali d and features for sending alarms to the treatment location if there are discrepancies between the operating parameters, medication identifiers, and/ or patient identifiers.

Abstract: A medical treatment administration system 610 for delivering a medical treatment to a patient 618. The system 610 has a medical device 612 disposed in a first location, an electronic processor 628 coupled to the medical device 612, a sensor 616 coupled to the processor 628, and a remote controller 646 disposed at a second location remote from the first location. The remote controller 646 has an input device to control operation of the electronic processor 628. The sensor 616 receives one or more signals which it transfers 624 to the processor 628. The signals can be derived from the patient's physiological condition and/or the environment of the patient. The processor 628 receives the signals and performs a calculation 630 of the signal. Based on the result of the calculation, the processor 628 regulates the distribution of medical treatment to the patient 618 over a period of time.

Abstract: A medical treatment administration system (10) for delivering a medical treatment to a patient (18). The system (10) has a medical device (12), an electronic processor (28) coupled to the medical device (12), and a sensor (16) coupled to the processor (28). The sensor (16) receives one or more signals which it transfers (24) to the processor (28). The signals can be derived from the patient's physiological condition and/or the environment of the patient. The processor (28) receives the signals and performs a calculation (30) of the signal. Based on the result of the calculation, the processor (28) regulates the distribution of medical treatment to the patien t (18) over a period of time.
