Abstract:
A system (100) includes a mobile station (125) to initiate an outgoing communication anywhere in a coverage area (115). A base station (110) and a radio access network (105) provide wireless service to the mobile station (125). The mobile station is paged in the sectors overlapping with only the clean zone. The mobile station (125) is paged in the sectors overlapping with the hot zone if the mobile station has predetermined trusted characteristics, or the mobile station is located within a clean zone of sectors overlapping with the hot zone, and an incoming communication for the mobile station originates from a predetermined trusted source. Existing calls to the mobile station are terminated in response to the existing call exceeding a predetermined threshold time limit, or a detected amount of voice activity in the existing call being below a predetermined threshold level.
Abstract:
A method (300) for selectively conveying multimedia information (110) on a communication device (100). The method may include conveying the multimedia information on the communication device and, responsive to the communication device detecting a second device (120) that is conveying the same multimedia information (110'), automatically changing at least one multimedia conveyance parameter on the communication device.
Abstract:
These various embodiments are usable in a context that comprises a first network (301) that serves to communicatively couple an entity (302) within a second network (303) (which second network is different than the first network) with an end user platform (304). Pursuant to these teachings this entity is identified (203) as having a predetermined status with respect to being provided with information regarding at least one first network event. When the first network event is detected (204) within the first network, a message is provided (205) to the entity regarding this first network event. By one approach the entity can acquire the indicated status via a subscription process (201 and 202).
Abstract:
A wireless communication system where voice frames are transmitted in sub-frames, wherein multiple sub-frames constitute a single radio frame, at least one of the sub-frames not having a negative acknowledgement associated therewith, including at a radio access network (120), decoding a voice frame in sub-frame of a received radio frame, the sub-frame having a negative acknowledgement associated therewith, transmitting, from the radio access network, the voice frame in a sub-frame of an other radio frame, the sub-frame of the other radio frame not having an negative acknowledgement associated therewith.
Abstract:
A method for managing allocation of connection identifiers (CIDs) to a wireless device (102) in a network (100) is provided. The method comprises allocating (404) a CID to the wireless device based on a predefined criteria. The CID is allocated for at least one service accessed by the wireless device. The CID includes predetermined bit locations. The predetermined bit locations includes first predetermined bit locations and second predetermined bit locations. Further, the method comprises instructing (406) the at least first wireless device to be responsive to messages that contain predetermined bit locations from the CID.
Abstract:
A call management system (136) and method that allows a first wireless voice call to be temporarily disconnected at a mobile device (130) while another communications session is performed from the same device (130). During a first voice call between a wireless communications device (130) and a second party, a network hold command is received. The second party is then placed on hold and wireless communications resources for the first wireless call are released. The wireless communications device (130) is subsequently reconnected to the second party. The reconnection includes removing the second party from hold and connecting the second party to the second voice call. A unit identifier (240) identifying the wireless communications device (130) is stored in an infrastructure database (114) along with an identifier of the first voice call to facilitate reconnection. Prior to reconnection, a wireless data communications session can be performed.
Abstract:
Various embodiments are described for providing a list-based service. One group of embodiments involves receiving a subscription to a list to which multiple list members are associated and then providing a notification when an aggregated state of the list satisfies a condition. The aggregated state of the list is based on at least a portion of the state information that pertains to each of the list members. Another group of embodiments involves sending (603) a subscription to a list to which multiple list members are associated and then receiving (605) a notification when an aggregated state of the list satisfies a condition. List-based services, such as presence, can benefit from notifications that are based on a list's aggregated state satisfying some condition.
Abstract:
A Presence Server (120) receives presence information associated with a Presentity and comprising one or more presence attributes. The Presentity is associated with a Presence User (102), a Presence Source (106), and a first Watcher (108). The Presence Server also receives a request from a second Watcher (114) to view a presence attribute of the one or more presence attributes, and further may receive a message from the first Watcher specifying a desire to be notified of who is watching the Presentity, presence attributes being filtered, and/or throttling or deferring of presence attribute updates implemented by the Presence Server. The Presence Server conveys to the first Watcher watcher notification information that informs of Watchers watching the Presentity, what is being watched, presence attributes being filtered, and/or throttling or deferring of presence attribute updates. The Presentity then determines whether to publish a presence attribute update based on the watcher notification information.
Abstract:
A page request (112) is received. When a user preference is not up-to-date, a non-acceptance message (116) is appended to a page response (114) and channel assignment is altered when the page response (114) includes the non-acceptance message (116).
Abstract:
A method and apparatus for altering a media activity are disclosed. The provision (101) of a dynamic media activity to a recipient user is enhanced by the dynamic acquisition (102) of information regarding an ambient condition of the user's environment and the use (104) of the information to dynamically alter the media activity in a manner that correlates with the information. An apparatus (200) embodying the method comprises a dynamic media activity engine (201) operably linked to a memory (202) having information regarding at least one ambient condition of the user and to a user interface (205). Information regarding ambient conditions may be obtained by an ambient condition detector (203) linked to the memory (202) or by means of a wireless interface (204).
