The disk recording appts. sequentially inputs data to a memory (14) at one transfer rate. This data is subsequently read out at a second, higher transfer rate and recorded to disk (2). The amounts of data read from the memory are set so that there is a writing space in memory. During playback, the recorded data are reproduced at a rate, higher than the rate for outputting the data, and stored in a memory (22). Again the amount of data read always maintains a minimum amount of data in the memory (22).

PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a recording or reproducing device in which attached data corresponding to sector data are stored in a buffer RAM and the need for designation of an address by a system controller is eliminated in the case of access to the attached data. SOLUTION: The reproducing device for reproducing data recorded on a recording medium in the unit of a sector is provided with: a reproducing means that reproduces reproduction data in the unit of a sector from the recording medium; an attached information generating means that generates attached data related to the reproduction data in the unit of a sector; a memory means where memory is arranged in the unit of a sector for storing the reproduction data in the unit of a sector and the attached data; a control means that controls reproduction of the reproduction data; and a memory control means to control the storage/read of the reproduction data in the unit of a sector including synchronous data and the attached data to/from the memory in which the reproduction data in the unit of a sector and the attached data related to the reproduction data are stored in a single sector of the memory means. PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To make easily legible the character display of the title of a tune or the like in a reproducing device and a reproducing method. SOLUTION: This reproducing device plays a recording medium provided with a data region in which the information of one or a plurality of units is recorded and a management region in which the recording position of the information recorded in the data region and character information on the information recorded in the data region are recorded. In the reproducing device, an identifier for converting a first character type into another character type is extracted to a character string reproduced from the management region, and when an identifier extracting means extracts the identifier, a character string with the identifier eliminated is extracted from the reproduced character string and converted into a character string of the other character type on the basis of an instruction of the identifier. PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To prevent recording and reproducing operation performance from being disturbed by contriving performing timing about a power saving operation. SOLUTION: A power saving mode controlling means can perform operation control for power consumption reduction to a prescribed part in accordance with data storage quantity in a storing means in a period where data are neither written nor read to/from a recording medium in a data recording or reproducing operation mode. Operation control for power consumption reduction is inhibited when an external power supply is used, when a user attaches importance to operating stability, when the possibility of an access operation is high, or when the possibility that an error occurs is high.

PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To easily and rapidly obtain the total reproducing time of all data files of a recording medium recorded with the plural data files varying in data compression rates. SOLUTION: The recording medium is provided with a data region where the plural data files varying in the data compression rates are recorded and a catalog management region where track number information corresponding to the respective data files, address information indicating recording positions and data compression rate information of the respective data files are recorded. The total reproducing time of all of the data files recorded at the recording medium can be determined simply by reading out the address information and data compression rate information of the catalog management region.

PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a control method of a reproducing device such as efficiently realizing the resume function to restart the next reproduction from the position where the reproducing operation is stopped. SOLUTION: Digital data recorded on an optical disk 2 are read out and written into a memory 22, then the reproduction is carried out while performing the read-out control. When the reproduction stopping operation is made by a key input operation part 8 at the time the resume mode is being selected, the time information of read-out data from the memory 22 is stored and held in a back-up memory. When the reproducing operation is made next, the read- out of the data is started from the position on the optical disk 2 based on the time information being held in the back-up memory.

PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To make all character information becoming unsuitable so as not to be diplayed by clearing all character information being on a display memory once at the point of time when a reproducing point becomes a timing discontinuous parts as times of recording information are to be reproduced. SOLUTION: When before and after tracks are discontinuous at a track changing timing tc in recording times, character data for display stored in an RAM are made so as to be cleared once at the track changing timing tc and at the point of time DA #2 of a track #2 are reproducingly outputted, independent information Mj(A) and program information Mj#1 corresponding to a track #1 are made so as not be displayed. Then, after independent information Mji(B) and program information Mj#2 are read out to some extent and the storing of them in the RAN is completed, the displaying operation of a dsiplay part is made to be completed.
