    Abstract: PURPOSE:To obtain an optical resin having a high refractive index and light resistance, does not discolor upon irradiation with sunlight or heating and does not emit any odor during processing by polymerizing a specified monomer having a thioester group. CONSTITUTION:This optical resin is formed of a polymer of a monomer mixture based on a monomer of formula I (wherein R is a hydrogen atom or a methyl; X is Cl or Br; m is an integer of 0-5; n is an integer of 1-4; and Ar is a benzene ring or a naphthalene ring). It is desirable that at least about 20wt.% monomer of formula I is contained in the total monomer mixture. The monomers other than the monomer of formula I are not particularly limited as far as they are olefinic compounds, and (meth)acrylic compounds, styrene compounds, acrylonitrile, and N-phenylmaleimide are particularly desirable. When a crosslinking monomer is added to the monomer mixture as a comonomer, a resin particularly excellent in heat resistance can be obtained. A desirable crosslinking monomer is one of formula II (wherein X is Cl or Br; and m is an integer of 0-5).

    Abstract: PURPOSE:To obtain a powdery adhesive, having a component with a constant average particle diameter, substantially spherical shape, ethylenic double bonds in particles, hot melt and thermosetting properties and suitable as point bonding elements of liquid crystal elements. CONSTITUTION:The aimed hot melt and thermosetting type powdery adhesive having at least a component with 0.5-500mum (preferably 1-50mum) average particle diameter (preferably within 30% coefficient of variation of the particle diameter) in substantially spherical shape having ethylenic double bonds in particles (preferably polyfunctional maleimide, unsaturated polyester or polyfunctional oligoacrylate). Furthermore, the unsaturated polyester and polyfunctional oligoacrylate are preferably bisphenol based substances and the component having ethylenic double bonds is preferably an epoxy resin (preferably bisphenol based epoxy resin). The aimed adhesive is used for bonding or sealing glass, metal and electronic materials.

    Abstract: PURPOSE:To provide a powdery adhesive for the point bonding of substrates of a liquid crystal display cell to keep the gap between the substrates at a constant distance and composed of an epoxy resin adhesive having a specific particle size and nonspherical form and containing a latent curing agent in the particle in dissolved state. CONSTITUTION:The objective adhesive having minute granular form is composed of an epoxy resin adhesive such as diglycidyl ether of a bisphenol, etc., having an average particle diameter of 1-20mum and nonspherical form and containing a latent curing agent (preferably glycidyl ether derivative of bisphenols, aromatic amines, amines having steric hindrance, etc.) in the particle in dissolved state. A large-sized display can be produced by the use of said adhesive without degrading the quality of the display.

    Abstract: PURPOSE:To obtain the title high-grade polymer suitable as, e.g., an additive for cosmetics, toners, etc., by discharging a monomer or an oligomer in the form of fine particles by giving a varied flow rate by applying an alternating voltage to a pressure element, dispersing the fine particles by applying thereto electric charges and curing or polymerizing the particles. CONSTITUTION:A feed solution comprising a monomer comprising an epoxy compound or its oligomer, a curing agent comprising an amine compound and a solvent and having an electric conductivity >=10 OMEGAcm is sent from a feed tank 10 through a means 11 for pressurization, such as a booster pump, and a pipe 12 at a pressure of 1-20kg/cm to a nozzle member 20 and this nozzle is filled with this solution to its fore end. In this state, a pressure element 22 is allowed to contract and expand alternately by applying thereto an alternating voltage of a frequency of 10,000-200,000Hz/s through a means 23 for applying an alternating voltage, whereupon the monomer stream discharged from the fore end of the nozzle can be given a varied flow rate and is discharged outward to form fine particles of uniform particle diameters. At the same time, these particles are dispersed by a application of a D.C. voltage of 1,000-10,000V through a means 24 for applying electric charges, received by a fine particle receiver 30 and cured or polymerized to obtain a fine particulate polymer of a diameter of several to several hundreds mu.

    Abstract: PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a low-cost front face filter for a plasma display which cause little leaking of electromagnetic waves and near IR rays and which shows excellent performance in chroma, brightenss and antireflection property. SOLUTION: This front face filter for a plasma display has at least an electrically conductive inorg. film and a resin film layer on a substrate, and the resin film layer consists of at least an adhesive film and a resin film. The resin film layer is stuck to at least one surface of the substrate through the adhesive layer. The electrically conductive inorg. film is formed on the substrate. The compound of the formula: CH2 =CH-O-(CH2 )a -O-(CH2 )b -Rf-(CH2 )b -O-(CH2 )a -O-CH= CH2 is obtained by allowing a fluorine-containing dialcohol compound to react with a vinyl ether having a halogen in the presence of an alkali catalyst.

    Abstract: PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To easily obtain the subject new compound having unsaturated double bond group and polar group in the molecule, and useful as a raw material for optical thin film excellent in such low reflectivity and scratch resistance as to be used in reflectionproof articles. SOLUTION: This compound is shown by the formula (CH2 =CR1 COOR2 OCH2 )2 Rf (R1 is H or methyl; R2 is a 1-10C alkyl bearing one hydroxyl group; Rf is a fluoroalkyl) [e.g. CH2 =CHCOOCH2 CH(OH)CH2 OCH2 (CF2 )8 CH2 OCH2 CH (OH)CH2 OCOCH=CH2 ]. The compound of the formula is obtained by reaction between a fluorine-contg. dialcohol and an epoxy group-bearing (meth)acrylate in the equivalent ratio of the latter to former of (0.3-2.0) [pref. (0.5-1.5)] pref. using a catalyst such as pyridine and a polymerization inhibitor such as metoquinone pref. at 40-150 deg.C (more pref. 50-130 deg.C) for 2-80 h.
